I agree but perhaps some more depth to it. For example, every npc has a story, perhaps undercity gangs (like in KOTOR), And there should be trade ships, docking station, perhaps buildings you can go into and maybe its a buisness center and you could apply for a job or rob it. My point being the cities feeling real and alive, not a half-a**ed zombie city. The cities should also be unique depending on which race they belong to, for human cities maybe several skyscrapers and tall buildings depending on the ingame economy if there is one and perhaps if starbound devs implement a military system, the cities could be conquered and be converted or not (IF a military system comes only). My point being the cities and the way they are should be a dynamic process. Just a few thoughts. Would make starbound a thousand times more interesting than just empty planets and biomes.
Interesting idea, but by NPC did you mean city Having every npc have a story seems a little overkill.
True but like KOTOR, Not EVERY npc may have a story but mainly most or at least half of the population has SOME kind of interaction. I do agree with your point though. With an indie game, it would be overkill not to also mention buggy. My main ideas are structured towards KOTOR which is why i bring it up a lot ( In case if someone doesn't know, KOTOR is Knights of The Old Republic, Or Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic, its a great RPG game with some exploration).
I love kotor. Like I said, I like the idea of having a sort of under-city, on city planets. But i would like to add on to that. Like on other planets layers should be random, so i suggest that some city planets have an underground with a ton of crime and things like that, But i also suggest some have a swamp at the bottom, and some have a sort of scarred rocky dark landscape under the city. Also sewers should exist in almost every city planet along with creatures unique to those sewers. (and unique to each undercity, of course)
This would be a nice addition to a city, i hope the devs see this, but then again, this is only a 2d platform game, but i supposed the devs could make it happen. Perhaps in the undercity or sewers or such someone gives you a quest and some npcs turn friendly and some hostile (Like in KOTOR the showdown between the aliens and the good guys where you have to steal the part for the podracer race.)
+1 I have heard the ideas similar to this regarding the space stations of sorts. I think this is one of the very best ideas which is most likely already entered the minds of the folks at Chucklefish. As someone said before, you really have to wonder where all the races mainly come from...I would love to see a futuristic Earth type from this suggestion.
+1 YES please. I want to be able to run across star docks and trip and fall to my death into the endless abyss of industrial constructions that show history and age as I plummet downward. ... Or I could just like, not die, and talk to people to purchase things. You could make it so that upper levels are more commonly accepted products such as food and whatnot, and lower levels races are selling "illegal stuff" like guns and whatnot.
I like the idea a fair bit, truth be told. Maybe they could be themed in some sort of way, or have themed sectors. For example, you could have an agricultural sector/planet, industrial, trade planets, commercial and such. In fact, if these were to be implemented, you could possibly add shipyards, which would allow you to upgrade your ship. Or maybe buy one from another race. (I said the second part because, truth be told, I dislike to Hylotl ship, and love the Apex. The ability to pick-and-choose would make me happy. I could go on, but this thread isn't for that.)
I agree with the OP. Should also think about what types of enemies are found on a planet like this. I wouldn't think there would be many aggressive birds on a homeworld type planet for example.
I support this idea. I have some additional ideas that will be explained in another thread. Viewable here: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/crosspost-npc-planets-true-endgame.59975/
First of all, bumping this idea of course. But I think the planets could have themes - I'd suggest in fact that they be based on races. Thus the Apex have vast sprawling, controlled, crazy scientific hives - or dull metroploises. The Hylotl cities are on an ocean world, that's mostly under the sea. on ocean-wide worlds - or the only inhabitable area of a toxic swamp. Floran cities are the result of terrifying bioengineering of plant life for rapid city building - or they tamed a living world. And so on. Also I'd suggest now and then you get a failed, toxic, "hive world" of a mostly dead planet-city filled with scavengers. In turn these City Worlds would be places to purchase unique ship upgrades as noted, and maybe have some pretty crazy missions. Side note, some of these worlds might be waiting for a hero so they can become ez-to-make Homeworlds . . .
Clearly, everyone lives in another sector, far, faaar away. Which is why I'm supporting this. Surely SOME people have explored out this far!
This also leads to a few interesting ideas: Failed colonies. Cannibal mutants and warring gangs and so forth. Colony Ships. Maybe each race, or some races, have a specailized land-and-live craft for colonies. Imagine Apex auto-terraformers that immediately plant trees when they land. Massive human ships that are essentially landable buildings. Elegant Hylotl seaships that drop a whole insta-colony into the ocean, and from which a network of habitable homes mechanically extend. Clunky stone-bound castles piloted by the Glitch that ram down into whatever looks habitable. Terrifying Floran bioships that land and seed themslves like plants, devouring local wildlife, plants, and ground to fuel their growth. Renegade Avian templeships, hijacked by non-believers to not spread the word, but make a quick colony. Seriously distant colonies. A rare spawn but you may meet members of a race completely disconnected from their origins. Alien ruins that were re-inhabited by another species.
great idea. you should of made a poll sir. building my house with those "ctiy blocks" and actually having high-tech decorative non apex crap
I really like the idea, except the glitch ships should be giant steampunk floating castles made of obsidian and steel with a big crystal as a base and would fire massive chains to anchor itself to a planet. Than they would throw down ropes and ladders and slowly climb down (because they don't use warp tehnology).
