Starbound currently does not allow you to determine where on a planet you beam down - your spawn point. If you die or return to the ship, you'll beam back down at that one spot, which may be miles away from the great spot you found to set up or hijack an existing base. That spot will also not change if you adjust that spot. If you build a house there, you'll beam into the house, but can't beam back out unless you exit. EDIT: If you put solid blocks over the spawn point, you will teleport into those solid blocks. =/ Change 1: Starbound's "default" spawn point starts from the top and goes down until it hits a background wall. It then goes back up until it's on top of a solid block to stand on. If you cover the spawn point with solid or background blocks, it re-evaluates it in this way, allowing you to build your base from the spawn point up instead of from the spawn point down. You will then port onto the "roof" of your house, at a spot you can also port back out. Change 2a: The Telepad and the Landing Beacon (Telepad is Tier 2 / Steel, Beacon is either Tier 2 or 3.) The Telepad lets you beam out while standing on it, even if there's a background wall, and you can select it as a beam-in point when you Warp To Planet (you have to be orbiting.) The Landing Beacon can be mid-clicked / E'd to select a 2x4 area that is less than one screen away - you can then select that Landing Beacon from Warp To Planet to beam in at that point (no effect on beaming out, must be orbiting.) Neither of these items work if you use Warp Home, only if you Warp To Planet while orbiting. Change 2a Addendum: The 2x4 area is right in front of your character - you have to be able to walk to the spot you want to set as a warp point. This will keep players from using Beacons to beam into otherwise inaccessible areas. Change 2b: One Telepad or Landing Beacon that is on your Home World can be selected as your Home Landing when selecting them from Warp To Planet (you have to be orbiting your home world to set your Home Landing so that your ship can triangulate its coordinates or w/e.) You will then appear at that Telepad or Beacon if you use Warp Home from another planet.
Maybe they could add craftable G.P.S. markers that players could leave at certain locations. Or emergency single use warp cells that return you to the spawn even If you are underground
I find this really frustrating in general. If I'm halfway cutting my way through a base or complex of some kind and happen to die, it can take me up to five minutes of boring overland travel to get back after a death.
I somehow changed mine. On the world I started on, I put some blocks down to note where I'd be warping in, I made sure to warp back up and down once just to make sure, but the next time I warped down, I was on the opposite side of the planet... which made me go "Dafuq iz goin' on, man?" until I walked around to the other side and found those blocks I placed... I've never been able to recreate it though... which is weird.
im sure everyone wants a bit of this. The builders for example are prob sick of the traveling the surface of the world after a long fall or strong monster death. The long walk along the planet to get the your house is never loved by people. Night can make it even worse. If the team added sleep and set spawn feature like Terraria or Minecraft it would fix the problem.
Can you elaborate more on how to implement this on multiplayer? I can definitely see that other players can mess with other players' landing beacon.
They merely could be protected.... not destroyable. And you sould be tier ship to be able to do so... I don't think this would be a mess until the community become quiet herp derp...
