ok so.. about a week ago, I had this sudden urge to draw. I never have drawn before so it was a first.
After failing at following tutorials (evil tutorials, all asking me to draw impossible circles.) I got advice from someone and it gave me a good kick start in drawing.
I am still learning so constructive comments on how to improve would be appreaciated. My ego likes to be fed to so feel free to feed it .

This is what I did within the first 3 days, in order.

Then after passing 2 days drawing bodies to improve, here is what I could make. Sadly I haven't training on making clothing back then so the first one isn't very safe so.. if you are too young, do not click on this spoiler.

You sure you are old enough? I really hope so.

Again I ask, Are you REALLY old enough? Well enjoy...

Then we got one with clothing, made it an hour ago.

For as little time practicing, you draw very well. I do not draw, so I can not give you advice, keep practicing and you'll draw incredibly well. :)

  5. Ooh, progress shots! One thing that would most likely help you is to learn to develop more confident lines. This is usually the main thing that would be pulling you back when drawing mainly linearts. This would also help you develop a more consistent circle, which would help you to do the basics of the tutorials, which is making the circle for a head.

Another thing, while you're still on an early start, I would strongly recommend using references when drawing, particularly on the clothing, body posture and anatomy. It would be helpful to look around the interwebs or on the mirror for different poses. Copying directly from other artworks are fine for a beginner. However, you'll soon develop the mistakes they have also done, and you will have no idea why they chose this for a style. Eventually you'll have to create your own, complete with your own mistakes. It's not bad to have mistakes. It's just more of a reason to get better.

Also, keeping a consistent face structure for anime characters is a key point to making impressive anime drawings. Remember, Anime/Manga characters are VERY fragile. The slightest modification in the structure can completely change the character itself. That's because the relative location of the eyes, nose, and mouth determine the personality of the characters.

Thanks you a lot. Yea for the confident lines, someone already told me and the last drawing in my list was made with longuer lines. But circles are evil. Bad circles. They almost made me give up trying to learn how to draw(evil tutorials and their evil circles). I felt like I learned better by drawing heads instead of circles.

As for referance, I was already doing it from the moment I stoped drawing tutorial heads. I look around for pose and body shape that fit what I want to try, draw the head and hair, as well as the face details myself. Draw the body base on the referance, maybe change a few details and such, for example the last one was from a referance where the girl was holding her hat, I changed the hands and drew my own instead. The lower half of the body was also different so I looked for another referance and slightly inspired myself from it to draw the lower half. As for developing the mistakes other people did. I dunno about that.. The one artist that inspired me to draw has godly art. It's pretty much just my personnal opinion but if I could draw like her, I would be happy. I don't personnaly notice any mistake in her art and even if there are some, it's part of her style I so adore. But yea, is it wrong to keep using referance material even after I stop been a beginer? I can't very well visualize the body in my mind so drawing is a bit difficult.

Now for the face structure, I am trying to keep the same face and inbetwen the last one and the semi-last one, is the face the same even with different emotion showing on it? Does it look like the same character?

  8. Once you realize how much of a bitch it is to draw circles [not spheres] at a perspective, you'll soon learn to love drawing normal circles.

Referencing is and will always be very important, no matter how skilled. The closest way to achieve reality is to copy directly from reality, rather than imagination. This is usually why people often start off using blind contour, which is drawing from reference WITHOUT looking at what they are drawing at. While the production is usually opposite of what is intended [It's almost impossible to blindly draw reality], it helps create more confident lines considering you can't really go back and fix anything since you can't really see it.

As for the faces, the faces are decently consistent, with the exception to the occasional change in hairstyle, mouth position, eye size and cheek size. Since there is no color, it's harder to determine whether it is a different character or not. If not given a description. I might mistake some faces in the above drawings as other people.

I must say I am very jealous. You got people down fairly quickly and have no where to go but up. Me on the other, I'm stuck drawing heads and trying to get female proportions down.

Slight down in drawing, but I still did one drawing per day.

Anyway, Here is the result of me going back on the basic, my begining: Faces.

Ahhh, I think I figured out what went wrong, you have forgotten to draw the nose.

  12. You should also practice more complex facial perspective by adding a vertical movement to the face. Try an angled, looking up/down, or a sideview looking up/down. Some will be difficult, but once you master it, you're in good shape.

Also, here's an excellent tip in maintaining the facial symmetry, however it involves slightly seethrough paper [or just paper that you can see from the back if you face it on a light source] or digital stuff.

Flip the face. If it looks funny, there's something wrong.

Anyways, what I believe is wrong is that t here's too much skin showing past the eye, plus the eyes look funny. It creates a distortion that the face is longer than usual, since the side hair is usually meant to determine the ear position

Here is what I did for the last 5 days.. Yes, took me 4 days to do my very first Lineart and as you can see there is a few mistake of a photoshop beginer in there.

"evil tutorials, all asking me to draw impossible circles."

Basically what I think every time I go on a tutorial website.
I took two years of art at my HS, now the only thing that came of it was my ability "to draw something I'm looking at" greatly improved.
I still can't draw from my head or out of nothing... I just need a picture to look at and replicate, I JUST CAN'T PULL STUFF OUT OF MID AIR.

hmm so well, two days ago I tried to do some coloring on the lineart.
I looked up at some tutorials but.. they are evil.
So in the end I passed most of my day like this.

But then the next day I figure it out so I took another full day just to add base colors.

Now I am currently trying to do shading but I have no idea how to pick a color for the shade.. so I'm kinda blocked..

Im no expert, but isnt the rule of thumb to choose colors lighter and darker than the bases? Also since theres no background ie outdoor, indoor, theres no way to determine warm or cool when it comes to shading.
