Bug/Issue Chest disappeared in mine level 20 (Switch)

Hello,
I was just playing on my Switch, and got to level 20 in the mines. I opened the chest but found that my inventory was full. I exited out of the chest, without grabbing the item inside, so that I could eat a food to open up the inventory slot. Before I had time to eat the food, the chest disappeared, along with the item it contained. Kinda aggravating, since I have to redo the day now and make sure I don't lose the item.
