this would be a planet that is obviously, based on the game chess. the ground is made up of small alternating patches of white and black . The mobs would be personified chess pieces, separated into black and white. each side will attack the other on site or flee if they are outmatched by to much(so most units will flee from a queen unless they have a queen of there own near by or outnumber them by inuf) the planet has areas/biomes belonging to each group, indicated by the black and white blocks being lighter/darker depending on which side it belongs to, you will only find the pieces of that side in there area except for attackers coming from an enemy area nether side is hostile at the start, but if you attack one side they will be hostile for a while(possibly a few ingame days, or possibly dependent on how manny and of what you kill) possibly missions given by a king to do various things, such as kill a certain number of apposing units, kill an apposing king of a neighboring area ect. Mobs: Pawns: the foot soldiers, nothing special,melee fighters that make up most of the chess piece army, only a threat of you let them swarm you Rooks: the warriors , faster and stronger then the pawn, melee fighters with a charge ability, moderate threat Bishops: the archers, equal to the rooks for the most part, but are faster and use ranged combat, have the ability to jump away diagonally in the air to get away from foes that get to close, firing at the target as they fly backwards Knight: the dragoons, the most agile of the pieces,melee fighters that jump around a lot during combat to both attack and dodge Queen: the trump card: uses both melee and ranged, very strong and has the charge ability of the rook and the jump of the bishop, though it uses them less as it can work both up close and far away, this is the piece that you must be careful of. King: the summoner, the king itself is rather weak, barely stronger then a pawn, but it constantly spawns groups of pawns and occasionally a rook, bishop, or knight, trys to keep its wall of minions between it and its enemy Buildings: Castle: built entirely out of eather black or white blocks depending on the area there in, they always house a king and queen unless the area has been cleared out before(though they will slowly come back if the areas left alone for to long) that stay close together as well as multiple mid-level pieces of the same color, pieces patrol the area but stay close by, may be by themselves or with a town near by Outpost: containing a fair few mid-level pieces as well as plenty of pawns, usually farther away from any castle, pieces will patrol the area around here further away then the castle, and if they spot an enemy the pieces in the outpost will go out to confront them Houses: small buildings usually around a castle but can also be found in small villages, house mostly pawns but can sometimes be mid-level pieces, towns will usually have other pieces patrolling the area Towers: large buildings that function much like outposts but tend to be closer to a castle, possibly filled with mostly rooks? Formations: these are some examples of possible kind of groups you might find scout: usually found on the outskirts of an area , 1 mid level and 2 pawns fallowing, hardly a threat at all small: usually has one or two mid-level pieces with 3-5 pawns following large: in the rare case that a king and/or queen is found away from there castle they will usually be accompinied by 3-4 mid-level pieces and a number of pawns, kings will usually hide in the back while queens lead there men Rewards: these are possible items might be rare drops , bought from shops or earned from missions and like everything else on the planet come in both black and white versions weapons/armor: each piece would have there own weapon, with the exception of the queen who would have both a short and long range one, there armor sets would give you a smiler appearance to that piece, and wearing them a full set of ether one piece or mix of them from one side will make the apposing side hostile on site possibly grant you the ability of the chosen piece as a set bonus(with the exception of king/queen as they would be overpowered) Allies: if you please a king inuf he may grant you the privilege to take one of his pawns/mid-level pieces(depending on how much you have done for him) as a crew-member Possible boss: Grand king: named ether ebony king or ivory king depending on color has the summoning abilities of a normal king but buffed, spawning more at a time and mid-levels far more frequently, there body would be similar to skelitron from terraria, with a flying body and hands floating near by attacks: swipe: basic swipe of the kings hand beam: fires a beam from his hand summon: the grand king clenches his fist and then opens it dropping down pieces now of course even if this is put in the game i dont expect all of it to be, these are just suggestions. please tell me your thoughts on my idea and anything you might think would be good to add on to the idea of a chess planet
This sounds like a cool idea. I could just see little soldiers running around with hats on that are the shape of whatever they are supposed to be.
I think it could be interesting if you had to choose a side and then treat the planet like a huge tug of war match with a major castle for both sides opposite from each other. It would be made even more interesting by the fact that enemy parties could spawn in both directions, forcing you to go back and forth to maintain momentum. The only thing that I can think to relate it to is something that is LoL-esque.
