So I realize that I am not much of an artist. Honestly, I'd be stuck if it weren't for the magic of the smudge tool in Gimp. In spite of my own shortcomings, I'm sure GeorgeV, Fetalstar, Rho, and Legris can make something wonderful out of this. Behold! The Cheerful Rainbow Cloud of Gruesome Laser Death: There are several reasons why I think my creation should be included in the game, many of them practical, most of them ridiculous. The Practical: - Clouds don't seem out of place on just about any planet with an atmosphere. - Clouds can be just about any color and can fit just about any color palette - It can have countless attack methods that can work with the procedural generation. It doesn't just have to vomit rainbows, it can spit lightning bolts or spray out frost, it can whack you with its rainbows, just to name three of the dozens of possibilities. - It can move around in tons of different ways (again, I'm sure there will be ways this can work with on the procedural generation). It can walk around like an AT-AT, it can roll over itself like a slinky or one of those thingies in the underwater area in Super Metroid, it can fly by flapping its rainbows about like wings, or it can rocket around with the rainbows trailing around behind it a la Nyancat. The Ridiculous: - It's a cloud vomiting rainbows, you have no soul if you don't find that cute! - If you look closely at each leg (and the lazer beem) you'll note that they are actually DOUBLE RAINBOWS - Everyone loves enemies that look really cute and end up being ravenous killers. See the cat/bunny/whatevers in Braid or the killer bunny in Monty Python and the Holy Grail for a few examples. Adding in some generic fantasy backstory to my original post: Timmy the Cheerful Rainbow Cloud lived in peace in the realm of Cirrus. Cirrus overlooked a humanoid city called Les Ongoles, which was rapidly expanding, and creating a lot of pollution. Then, one day, the smog-do-lytes generated by the factories below made arms for themselves and attacked the realm of Cirrus. Timmy and his people were massacred, and the smog-do-lytes chased off those who survived to the far reaches of the galaxy. Many of them, including Timmy, decided to abandon their peaceful ways. Their hope is that by strength and brute rage they might one day retake their beloved kingdom from the smog-do-lytes. Unfortunately many of the cloud people lost control of their rage, and now violently attack anything and everything they perceive as a threat. Also, here is my initial concept art for the creature (which I actually like a bit more than the final .GIF I produced): I plan on buying the game anyways at release to show my support, so would it be possible to exchange the prize for a date with Fetalstar?
