Cheating Concerns - Any way to combat it?

I'm sorry but it would seem like a better idea to list one major actual insecurity instead of going through and listing everything as secure.

Your argument should take seconds to prove if its actually true.

What "pain" is that, exactly? The fact that somewhere out there in the realms of cyberspace, someone is cheating on a non-competitive game? If you don't like cheaters don't play with them. If you're on a server with cheaters then it's down to the admin to either accept it or not, if there isn't an active admin then rent your own server and police it however you please.

Thread: I am an honorabu samurai warlord and I do not condone cheating in any sort of way and am super upset other people will do it.
I even hate my friends and am jealous of the way they are playing.

I'll be honest, I don't give a flying fuck if people cheat in singleplayer, but there need to be -some- anti-cheat measures available for servers by default. I think that's more what this thread is about rather than destroying the ability to cheat altogether.

So you mean have optional global banning system(disabled by default)?

It just occurred to me that it might not be a bad idea for Anti-Cheat Measures & such to get Implemented in Stage 2 or 3 of the Beta... but not for the reason of stopping Cheating in the Beta alone... but rather instead to Beta Test the Anti-Cheat Measures & look for ways to make them stronger & more powerful... wouldn't it be cool if we got to be a part of a New Era in Anti-Cheat Innovation & Development & if Starbound got to be the inventor of a whole new level of Multiplayer Security? & if a awesome breakthrough in MP Security doesn't manage to happen, dang, but oh well, was worth a try. :p

When i'm not in middle of being annoyed at the Cheater's disregard for other people's fun & enjoyment, I try to remember that they cheat because they suck too much to earn their victory in the game, & thus they could plausibly be considered a bunch of Pitiable blokes! (Bolded words bolded for extra sting.) Bask in my Pity Cheaters, bask! :mwahaha:

So players can't play this game as a sandbox game with sandbox rules?

  8. Well to be perfectly honest kiting mobs etc is the only way to progress now since the game is so unbalanced, besides what's the point of cheats if you can mod EVERYTHING into the game including 9999999 DMG weapons etc :p

The problem is when Cheaters intentionally ruin other people's fun on purpose, & feel like they are entitled to have the right to do this freely, then can't understand why the people hate being the ones having their fun ruined by the Cheaters... it's comparable to you hitting other people with your Fist for your own pleasure then you being unable to understand why the other people would hate being the ones punched & hit, which compels them to react to it... (Note: This is a rough example, not a literal one.) This attitude of expecting people to not react to being hurt does not compute with me. Even the Legend of Zelda Chickens (dammit, forget how to spell their name atm...) have too much sense to not react to being hurt, & they're pea-brained little birds. Why do Cheaters feel entitled to be allowed to hurt anyone they want for free so they themselves don't have to actually bother thinking...? It's very disappointing how uncivil Cheaters can be.

Don't play with people you don't know. That's a solid rule of thumb whether a game can be hacked/cheated or not.

That is perfect reason to support tools for server owners to be able to kick and ban cheaters, However not all cheater s intentionally ruin other people's fun. I know me using console command in skyrim or portal does not affect anyone else's enjoyment. I also know that from modding halo 2 (on xbox) that cheating can be fun for a lot of people as long as they consent to the cheats ahead of time.( rocket launcher smgs are always fun )

the sad part is that cheating isn't even a valid topic, considering you can just ban the cheater from your server and everything is k.

I haven't talked about them ruining my experience, just that it was upsetting to have friends playing on a server, patently cheating, and nothing I could do about it. If they want to run a cheating program and hack their game - not mod it - what most people consider "mods" are not "cheats" even if they cause cheating, because mods require all players to have the same files (usually). I'm hoping people aren't talking about me wanting to ruin their sandbox experience. From what I gather, some of you are saying it being sandbox makes it okay to cheat when playing with people who don't want to cheat and that sandbox-style games allow cheating by nature. Most multiplayer sandbox games discourage cheating. Gmod will get you banned for cheating. Minecraft servers, from my recollection, try to combat cheating. My only concern has been if someone wants to play legitimately with other players, where do they go?

Yup, opened by the same person. I myself had to check the history. And no didn't mean you by stopping. As for

"My only concern has been if someone wants to play legitimately with other players, where do they go?" As I said further up, wait until they are down with the game working, and the server feature complete. See what it'll offer, and then think about how to implement anti cheat measures. As it stands, you won't keep any of these characters anyway.

I believe some minecraft servers offer creative worlds for players to just screw around it, also there are sandbox mode gmod servers that have a very relaxed view on using cheats.
