Right, good we got that cleared up. In that case good luck in your endevours and your quest for the server that caters to you and you alone. I'll get back to having fun with my friends and looking for bugs to report.

I'm fine with people cheating on their own.

But there really should be ways to prevent cheating on your own server besides limiting who can go on it.

Minecraft does this almost perfectly. Sure, there are still cheats on servers for it but nothing gamebreaking.

Oh you mean aside from invulnerability, artificial lag, x-ray vision (even on servers that claim to protect against this), hacking your way into the admin control panel and gaining server-op access, or a million of other exploits?

Minecraft is not safe - Don't kid yourself for a second. It has basic measures that are implemented to keep the game STABLE, not SAFE.

As long as you run bukkit it is fairly safe with zero game breaking exploits compared to what starbound has.

Vanilla is not safe, but never needed to be since Notch already knew other people would handle it.

Just stop already - You're clearly just echoing what their front page promises with no actual first hand experience with the code and gaping security holes in the game itself and bukkit...

I imagine when the game is better optimized, they can switch currently client-side actions over to server-side. This'll fix most of the cheating.

Nope, I have run bukkit with a few plugins several times and hosted medium servers of about 25 players online at a time.

Been able to block xray, etc.

The only hacks that work if you set up properly are either client side hacks or doing something ridiculously small so that the server doesn't detect it.

Something as small as increasing your jump height by only 1/2 a block instead of a little more where it will be detected easily.

Sure thing, Malza. And pigs can fly too.

Lull yourself into that false sense of security of yours all you want - Meanwhile in the real world, you're still running a swizz cheese.

Yet you've yet to show one instance of a properly ran server ever on minecraft being overrun by gamebreaking cheats.

If you consider extremely minor stuff gamebreaking then whatever. But if you set a server right you can easily stop crap such as auto aim, forcefield, xray, fly hack, speed hack, spawning items, oping themselves etc.

I still don't understand why people are worried about "cheaters". Doesn't anyone play games with their friends anymore? Hell, doing game breaking stuff with them is always fun.

    To stop cheating?

Play with close friends, or trusted friends of friends. Explain in detail that you will not condone any cheating/exploiting and just keep an eye on it.

I've ran a server for friends whenever I play, 1 of them I caught duping items. I removed him from the server and disallowed him from playing.

I would just like to point out that cheating programs like Cheat Engine, and anything else similar are the least of your concerns. As the game files are all stored client side and easily modifiable with notepad++, or even regular notepad to a lesser extent, is the real trouble. Through a bit of careful editing I was able to make a basic stone pickaxe destroy a 100x100 area with a single stroke. No cheating device required, just changing a few lines of text in a game file readily available to me. Food for thought.

Oh no - Don't think you're getting the easy end of that stick. You're the one praising it for being oh so secure - You're the one who needs to show something to solidify your argument.

well i experianced cheating on a server yesterday, safe to say i presume its the whole reason servers lagg, there was 3 guys instant mining roughly 20x20 blocks each, so basicly a full screen of minable material was falling at once causing massive lag. it had only taken them 30 seconds to hit lava from the surface. safe to say i dont want to play public starbound servers, as when i saw this i googled starbound cheats and found trainers for god mode and alsorts, kind of sad, but if i play with my own friends who dont cheat all will be fine, just have to stay away from anything public

Ok firstly Minecraft is NOT the same as Starbound, players are server-side on MC and are client-side on SB. Big difference. You can stop the client in MC lying about itself by fixing it, but in SB the client could ignore that correction. If anything, compare SB to Terraria, since that's also a client-sided model.

Also, why not leave the anti-cheat systems until release comes about (or at least beta 3) and have it toggle-able? Seems like the best option both for those who want a free environment AND those who want a save one. No cheaters for the cheat-haters, no restrictions for the modders.

What I said isn't enough to teach people how to do it. And even still, if people really want to know badly enough, Google will tell all.

I don't believe in your false canine religion. Your "god" can try and smite me all it wants - Power of disbelief.

On a more serious note, no worries. I'm done with Malza. Some people just don't respond to sense. Needless to say, if anyone expects a safe "Starbound", they are in for quite the ride - Keep your multiplayer games to your circle of friends, or expect !!FUN!!
