Am I the only person who saw what really was about to happen in that wallpaper photo? :rip:

I never clicked it, but now that I did, hooray for Florans being awesome!

Awesome article Charlton, great to learn a bit more about these "mushrooms-on-two-legs". Now I totally consider them as a menace, cause I must say I was hesitant in the first place when Agarans started appearing here and there... Hope there will be an article on your explosive encounter with Hiraki in the next Starbound Chronicle ;)

    Woah, gotta break this down!
Soy? From this, we know that Agaran spores can die from spores...
So the spores were in his lungs... probably means that he breathed them in. (Chalton you're screwed) When the temperature rose to a certain level, the spores decomposed that body, like any other fungus. But...
So while the spores got nutrients, they divided too and covered the body to create more absorption of nutrients due to larger surface area. In only 1hr 30min, the spore cluster was so big that it could launch spores into the ventilation and get through the ship. It's stated the the fungi is "sentient", like an animal, and is able to comprehend certain instinctive commands, like spreading. It also seem familiar with technological environments, since it recognized the vents as a way of travel.
    Again, it mass produces.
So after the spores spread through enough surface area, a conditioned reflex caused them to stop growing. They didn't use energy to grow. They copied the Sunborn's body to make an Agaran.
    Don't be potatoes.
So the spores reactivate upon completion of the Agaran. The spores must create very powerful enzymes, because them managed to convert the ship's metal into energy in a very destructive and evasive way.
So the Agaran must have been sapient or had the instinct of turning off the life support coded in during creation.
    We got no wings.
So the spores can build up into large masses. Probably what the mushroom blocks are.

Now, I trust Chalton McMollygos, and this source looks pretty reliable. Keep up the work, McMollygos. We need you to get your papers and give us stuff to analyze.
Although this doesn't elaborate much on Agarans much themselves, it gives us a good idea of how these spores work.
Now, back to programming a scanner that can penetrate the skin of a G3 Pod...

Wait... still-fresh sunborn corpse? How long ago did you say this happened, Charlton? Everyone seems convinced that the sunborn died out hundreds of years ago.
This may also explain why the apex labs found are destroyed. But if the agaran was based on a sunborn template... does that mean... flying mushrooms?!?!
Also, you should seriously start worrying about your health soon...

Your anti-Hylotl bigotry is noted with disapproval, sir. While Hylotl are not perfect creatures, we are beyond simple barbarism. We would not savage a peaceful people. The fact that the skulls of my brothers and sisters are found mounted on spikes in some Agaran outposts makes me fear the worst for the future of our people.

This thread was made because the other thread got overrun by theories. You should post theories there to prevent the same thing from happening here. Just saying.

Today I found a Floran hut. I opened the door and was greeted by a startled Agaran.

A thin layer of dusk was starting to coat every surface in the house. The Agaran offered me the bed, and I refused. I needed to get some work done. I had not seen an Agaran inhabiting a Floran's hut before. Then I started hearing... the muffled sound of stomping feet, from what seemed to be below me. Then the worst thought came to mind...

Is there someone buried under me?

I quickly started excavating a tunnel leading under the house using my axe. The dry sand moved easily.

I was at it for quite some time when my axe bounced back at me, the result of hitting a much harder surface. I came face to face with a wall of hard dirt blocks, held together tightly by a system of roots running between the bricks. I pushed out the top ones and saw a bad scene below.

A male Floran was pacing in circles. Multiple times he jumped off of his bed, making a thumping sound. So that's what I heard! I also spotted a drysap dispenser and a small chest, crafted out of branches. I knocked out a large portion of the wall by accident, alerting the Floran. It turned to me and said something I will never forget.

"Floran is hero to cocoon kin."
The Floran proceeded to walk out the tunnel I dug into the wild and was promptly killed by a bolt of electricity shot off by a space bear. But I had the info I needed.
