Why not have some character types use energy blasts that are generated by the character. So they don't have weapons but are themselves weapons. Kinda like dragonball z stuff. Figure this was more of a mechanic than anything so i put it in here.
that would be cool if you could attack without weapons, and do energy blasts and stuff like that depending on your armor.
Would make for an incredibly OP race... I mean, assuming that the attacks are actually worthwhile, that means you're starting the game with a mid-game strength weapon, which just seems goofy. At best, I could see this being an armor class that focuses around spell-type effects.
Due to the futuristic setting, it could be done through implants (assuming they are in the game), if it were a natural ability, it would probably need to be quite expensive to stop it from being overpowered (possibly have it draw from an energy reserve, or slowly drain your health if you overuse it (dependent on power, possibly 100 shots, and then you would need to not use it for a while (either use a bed in game, use an item that recharges energy, or possibly just have a real time cooldown of X (I'm not sure what that would be, it would need to be short enough to make the power worth having, and long enough to stop it from being too powerful) otherwise it would start to take a certain amount of health away with each shot (possibly five or ten, dependent on power/the health you have (obviously unaffected by armour due to it being a natural ability)). Another possibility is not having it useable at the start of the game, and instead making you complete a certain mission in order to unlock the ability to use it.
I disagree, some kind of weapon should required or people could sneak into a base saying they have no weapons and murder everything.
