Character wipe?

With this whole update thing coming out, I was wondering if there's gonna be a character wipe. I asked my friend, and he said there wouldn't be one, but then I heard that there would be one. Cause if that's the case, I'm gonna give my Apex the best last day of his life before he dies.

 

I don't think characters will be wiped, but they will be unavailable until they find a way to convert them to the new version of the game. I wonder if characters from unstable upbeat giraffe will have any problems.

 

Not wiped, but unusable until Chucklefish finds a way to port them to the last stable, which may be Soon, not so Soon, SoonTM, or even it may not be possible at all.

 

I put a bunch of hours into a few different characters. I deleted them all happily - the new update requires a play from the very beginning.

 

It is likely, as the codes for certain items might be changed, causing discrepancies with the code and might cause crashes.

 

Start afresh in a much different experience @Bustow .. I think you'll find it improved.

I'm definitely gonna start over, I just want to keep some of the cool clothes/items that I found. Most of them might cause problems, so I'll have to delete those ones. I assume the planets will be wiped as well?

 

Planets are getting wiped yes.

 

i want my old files back i really don't care for the "New Player Experience" i put a lot of work and heart into my chars only to find them wiped from existence. please chucklefish give us a conversion tool.

 

I'm a little sad my old char got deleted actually :/
But yeah, it is also fun to start all over again imo.

 

They arent deleted. They are inaccessible by the current game.

Chucklefish have mentioned working on a conversion tool, so there is some hope that you will see your old chars again.

 

The only problem I have with starting over is that I CAN'T FIND ANY ORES. ANYWHERE.

Seriously, they're no against the surface anymore, actually have to go dooooown.

 

I know. But whenever I try that, I just fall and die. Or I never find anything because it's so dark.

 

You got a flashlight for that kinda stuff, dude. Your Matter Manipulator also lights up where your pointer is, so you can actually see what you're doing in caves. Or you could try choosing a Novakid race and using the race's dim glow to light up your cave just a bit. Speaking of Novakid glowing, I haven't been able to get mine to light up. Did they remove that attribute?

 

You get the lantern on a stick surprisingly early too, to bad it's pretty weak.

 

That's the problem; in order to get that, you have to spend a long time in the dark randomly guessing where to find ores. As for the flashlight, it works but is not the most efficient tool. You have to switch back and forth between that and the matter manipulator. Of course, this probaly isn't a problem for most people. I'm just excessively lazy.

 

There's a buttload of coal at the surface, and lots of trees to knock down for wood. Thus, torches. Thus, ample placeable light sources.
