Character level

How do I figure out what level my character is, or what planets/ bosses I am ready for?

Your character has no level. Rather, you''ll have to go by the quality of your equipment. You'll be ready for bosses/harder planets if you use armor/weapons made from rarer metals.

 

Basically what Justanzo said. Your goal, for example when you hit Tier 2, would be to gather the materials to make the highest available Tier 2 armor, find a good T2 weapon with good DPS, and then gather the resources required to make the T2 boss spawner. Progress that way. If you go to a planet and keep getting one shotted, just leave and try your luck on another planet.

 

Make sure you have enough fuel to go there and back again if you ever go over your head and can't survive on the planet for long.

 

Thanks everyone, all of my planets show threat level 1 currently, I am guessing this is a bug.

 

It's not a bug. It's intentional and a Work-In-Progress. Threat levels only increase when you go to a new sector. Hopefully we'll see more changes to the starmap.

 

There will probably be mods that have RPG-like characteristics, regardless of whether the Dev's support this or not. I wouldn't expect something fully fleshed out until later in the beta or full release though. I too am looking forward to see what modder's can do.
