Closed Character disappeared

The character I made a few days ago has disappeared. Yesterday evening it was still there. Didn't press on any delete button. Maybe it has got something to do with the update of today? Could somebody please help me?

 

Dev already said about that. New weapon/damage system = all character will be deleted

 

yep there was a character wipe with the latest patch, beta is beta, this was to be expected and will probably happen again

 

They should have thought about that before. Never played any game with developers who do such dick moves.

 

It's in beta. Character wipes are going to happen. It's not a full functioning game yet.

they did think about this before and informed everyone buying the game about it. you have bought a beta in the early development phase:

we are in phase 1 of the beta, heavy rebalancing is taking place and saves are being wiped.
no reason to get angry at anyone, you knew what you were getting into (or didn't read the info available to you)

 

Why fucking screw over the whole system in a beta? You do such things in an alpha. Let them fucking put such things on the Steam page so people can think twice before they buy a game which makes you lose hours of progress.

the steam store page clearly says "early access game" with bugs and fast updates. this is almost impossible to do without corrupting saves.

I dont even know why its being called a beta. Its practically an alpha. Most beta's you might play are generally practically finished products. If this game was that kind of beta, it wouldn't be released until like, 6 months from now. This stage isn't meant to have the players gain constant progress, it's meant to have players get used to the controls and help the devs with fixing the game by having actual input.

 

Chucklefish aren't the people that put stuff on the steam page of the game. The devs have also warned us many times the past few days that this would happen. Seriously though, if you can't handle the deletion of saves then you shouldn't have overlooked the warning and just waited for stage 2 before you bought it. Also, the previous system wasn't the best, hence it needed a rework that had to be added in the Beta. It was like a base system that could be added on to or changed in future updates.

 

If you mean Windows 8 with it, I am using Linux. Good try though.

Sonatafox is saying the first smart thing on this subject. This is obviously an alpha version.

They fixed the combat and made it actually fair. How did they screw it over? If you cant handle save loss you should wait for stage 2 instead of whining about it here.

 

Alpha is normally when devs or select people test the game and beta is normally for public testing.

 

Well strictly speaking, you are not wrong. Then again, Minecraft is more perpetual beta than a finished product and still has lots and lots of bugs after all this time since the release of 1.0. Maybe that's just the drawback of following/buying/playing indie games.

Well i know you can recover your character by changing your .player file SBPFV1 to SBPFV1.1 (using a hex editor, would obviously have to add 2 bytes) I tried the same with the world but that didnt work. I don't know what kind of negative impact using the same save would have though. I am just throwing it out there in case you really want your character back . the world is probably more important to most but i dunno how to recover that one.
