I think that the character creation in this game is great.. don't get me wrong, i think that it is up to scratch, but when i look at all our home made avatars on these forums, i dream of a world where you can create your own avatar from scratch. sort of like minecaft. this would create awesome avatars and e.c.t. I am not trying to sound like a pest and i know that it would be a big job to do this but it think it would greatly enhance the game if they put in a custom avatar tool.
I said no because if we had custom characters, then they wouldn't match the feel of the game. I mean, a bright banana that looks as if it's been made by a kindergartener doesn't match the game at all. That's what bothered me in Minecraft, people looked as if they were not part of the game, and to have a good skin you had to download one from someone else, and I frankly don't wanna have to look for hours through a list of person-made skins just to find something that I may or may not like.
True dat. this brings up a point. i think that there could easily be rp servers or moderators on each server that decide whether your skin matches or not. i like your point and i think it is true, but it could be easily combated!
That's funny I made more than half the skins I use, I use 3... a blue terran marine... a miner dude... and the one I downloaded because it is super cool, the Templar, a knight essentially.
Not only that, Its also hard to implement. You'd need to animate your character, since usually these animations are generated with some color / cloth / hair and whatever input, you'd then need to draw a character for each possible animation. Also you'd have problems with the character not having his hands or shoes not where he should have them, and even more, you wouldn't be able to let him take on armor, since the character needs to fit some size. Enableing something like this would be like enableing custom player meshes in minecraft... That's why I said "no".
Perhaps if we just have more customization options and he ability to submit new gear into the game such as hats and armor.
