Character Clone

Isn't it too easy right now to completly clone a character with all it has in it's inventory?

I mean, all the files are saved on the client's computer, so you can just send a copy of them to a friend, and you can both use your character. Furthermore, he can give you all the cloned items, making you twice as rich, and you can then send him a new copy of the character, continuing the process as many times as you want, and your items/money increasing exponentially.

This is obviously not a problem on single player, and could stay exactly as it is, but as for the mutiplayer mode, the characters should be saved on the server side, and linked to the account that created them [like any (or most) other client-server based game].

Remember were still on Alpha Stage of the game, this is on of the bugs that you can call that will get fix further in the development of the game.

It's actually Beta, and there's no indication that they have this issue in mind. Beta isn't about forgiving every mistake and bug, but about helping finding them and giving possible solutions so the devs can properly fix them!

    To be fair
Stage 1 - is simply about making a complete feature set and not crashing the game.

Stage 2 - is bug fixing and optimization.

Um, but this game was never meant to be played competitively. And the game engine is built to be easily moddable. If you wanted to you could make a money bush.

You can even make a mod file that allows you to make the max tier armor set from dirt.

I don't think this is the same type of game you think it is...

True, they can leave it to be fixed on stage 2. I just had to report it as soon as I noticed the exploitable.

It doesn´t really matter if it's competitively or not, it's still cheating. And mods are a whole other thing, completly different.

Yes, you can have a modded server with everything easy and lots of kids playing, but it would be terrible to have a serious server with people PvPing and building their empire, and then a team comes with this cloning stuff and dominates the server, wouldn't it?

Wait what? It has servers, accounts, characters and worlds. What's so different from whatever it is you think I'm thinking?

Yeah it's a beta but were still in the Stage one of the beta so it's pretty much like an Alpha stage

  10. Don't worry, Tiy has explicitly stated he wants server tools to include server side characters.

Hm, I'm not sure this is too different from what many players do with mods that allow for item spawning. Note there's also nothing stopping a player from using mods to spawn whatever item he or she wants, then bringing the character into a multiplayer server (err, I actually haven't done multiplayer yet, I assume this is how it works).
Oh, hey, cool. There's that then!

You may notice that when you log into a multiplayer server you can specify an "account". This is related to a presently inactive (?) feature that will enable servers to maintain a server-side character list. Like Neverwinter Nights, Diablo and many games before them, Starbound will (ultimately) have the option for a server to allow either client-side characters for flexibility, or keep characters server-side to prevent cheating. As opposed to say, Minecraft or any MMO, which keeps characters exclusively server-side

Right now, given the priority to establish working netcode and gameplay, only the client-side characters are implemented (I think, I've yet to see a server with server-side characters, but may be wrong), which means cheating is rather easy, but also largely irrelevant to their current testing

Yeeeeeah, no. And still, you missed the main point of my argument ^^

Did he? That's really good to know, thank you very much :D

If characters are saved on server-side, they can't bring the items from single player ;)
