Changing character race?

I've finished the game, and done most of the side quests, but I'm getting kind of tired of my old character and ship. Is there any way to change your character's race, but not items, quests, etc.? Any programs or tools? Config files? If you have any ideas please let me know!

 

there are ways to change your race, but none are simple. you have to know exactly what data you need and where, or your race will be broken
