just started playing and 2 seconds after landing on a planet I discovered stuff......it reminds me of when I just got terraria in time for the 1.2 update......befor my reliance on the wiki
Sadly I've had the game crash on me three times in the last hour while playing after the update, with an access violation error. Not doing anything in particular, it's happening when I'm just walking along, not attacking or interacting with anything. This is on Windows 7 64-bit on a newer high-spec machine. Haven't had any framerate issues or anything else that jumps out, just these random crashes when I'm walking around. Also disappointed to see no key mapping yet, Autohotkey is a lousy option since any typing for filtering or chatting just come out gibberish, and it's impossible to use WASD+Space using your right hand with the controls as-is. Really surprised they haven't at least given a config file to edit in the meantime, I'm a game developer myself and key binding is generally a trivial thing as others mentioned -- the UI may take a couple hours to set up, but loading a config file in the meantime should be easy. Surely the engine is already using variables for this like "RIGHT_KEY = 68" or "RIGHT_KEY = 'D'" which could be loaded from a config instead of preset.
I am really disappointed with some changes. The 1th is the difficulty in making mods with the new format. Not have clear instructions on how to make our mods compatible with the new system. 2th is about how to deal with server-side problems and cheaters. Starbound looks a great game, but have tons of problems in the multiplayer side. 3th Is about the new patching system. If each small patch change the game version, our work become a nightmare to keep everything updated.
The games become increasingly more laggy due to the most recent update, i dont know what it is, but it wasn't like this before, other aspects of the game are good, but please get this sorted
That is an UNACCEPTABLE answer to my question! I should NEVER, EVER have to pirate a game (ESPECIALLY if I've legally purchased it) just to be able to mod it again! I want to be able to look at the NEW ASSETS that were introduced with the NEW VERSION of Starbound!
Thank you for the hard work in getting this patch in place. I know people are over-excited and when something isn't working 110% they get upset from having their hopes up. Let's all remember we're still in the early Beta, we all love the game; and if you don't love it- don't play it.
I'm also having troubles with the FPS, the game is slower than before, specially when moving and running on the planets's surface. Still, it's not so horrible that I can't play, but I guess that people with slow machines will have lots of troubles. I've also noticed that some bugs and crashes have been solved, I'm not experiencing sudden crashes anymore. The game is also loading much faster in the startup than in last versions. Cheers, and keep up with the good work.
This post is unnacceptable and so is your anger, just unpack the .pak or whatever and stop being angry.
I was so excited about this update and the fps is unplayable, I know it's beta, I'm not raging, just I hope it gets patched asap xD I've been waiting ages for this
Care to teach me how to do that then? Sorry if I sound pissed, but I'm rather upset that I can't mod this game anymore.
First of all, I really think we should be grateful for this patch and consider it as a huge step towards awesomeness. The changes it brings are the first step in improving the game as a whole. Stop complaining about content/additional features we all knew wouldn't make into this patch, as its main objective was to eliminate character/ship wipes as the result of new core mechanics. Just think that all further additions will be a lot easier, or at least less difficult than it would if this change hadn't been deployed at all. Developers can now concentrate in adding all those missing stuff people have been asking since the very first Beta version. Now be patient and wait, again! They are not on vacation anymore so no one has to be concerned about hiatus in their schedule. For those having problems like FPS drop, crashes etc. my tip would be to launch the game from its folder instead of your Steam Library. Also, try and verify the integrity of the game cache. Instructions: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 Please note I just want to help and I don't guarantee that any of these steps will work at all.
They are already working on the FPS issues, along with the Mac issues. For the modders there is an asset packer and unpacker in the win32 folder which they are also updating for safer use (whatever that means).
I've been trying that, but I can't quite figure out how to use that. Whenever I try to click on the asset unpacker, it does something, though what it does, I don't know, as it closes immediately after opening. Am I missing something here?
