I am, too...and I agree they're complaining quite a bit. I was just making an observation, though...as I can get by with using the standard controls no problem...I just wish I could change them. ^^ Actually, I may be wrong...but I could've sworn this stage of the beta was all about modifying the system.
Guys, if you need to change the keybinds for a bit until they get them out themselves, I recommend looking into AutoHotKey. It's simple enough to figure out and you can easily bind WASD to the arrow keys if you need. http://www.autohotkey.com/ I used it for a bit and it's pretty good.
The usual response to criticism on the Starbound forum, during early access: "Stop complaining! It's just beta! They still have to work out the kinks! Only people who hate this game want to see it improve!" The future response to criticism, after final release: "It's too late now, the game's already out. Your ideas for basic functionality can wait until a future version patch. Why didn't you bring this up during pre-release?"
I hate to say it but, I was gonna whine about it because it means NO ONE CAN HAVE CHRISTMAS ARMOR. Gasp. Anyway, I MIGHT enjoy getting to Tier 10 in 2 days again, or it might be harder this time.
It just absolutely disgusts me at the fact that no one on these forums understands how complicated it is to make a game in the first place. The fact that they actually released the game before it was finished should create positive responses as well as more supportive gamers, rather than a bunch of idiots arguing over what systems of a game is necessary to make a game, like key-bindings, and yes I am going to use the excuse this is a beta because, this is a beta. You cant complain that a skyscraper needs more vending machines when the infrastructure is barely finished. This is not my bias opinion or fanboying, this is an honest opinion, and I personally think that you people do not need to quarrel over some pointless argument about key-bindings or having a characters underwear showing or not, and yes I understand Starbound has come a long way in its lifetime, but it is far from finished, and everyone has to understand this concept. Now in stead of bomb shelling me with hate and how I'm just using the beta excuse, because even though I am, I'm using it for a good reason.
Actually, your argument has been shot to pieces dozens of times already, while mine still stands. Just because you're fine with being a complete loner or only playing with a personal group of friends doesn't mean other people are, stop posting if you can't comprehend basic things. This "feature" is nothing other than an annoyance at best and a griefer magnet at worst.
It's actually sort of funny, in the past... I think five or so years? I've watched several games go through this EXACT cycle and nearly if not completely tank as a result. The most recent was SMNC, this mentality is SPOT ON for how the beta testers acted on the forums.
Not yet...it's also another thing being worked on, I believe...at least until they make it so all techs can be used so long as they're just locked in (i believe this is planned, as well...but don't quote me on that one =p).
All of the entitled whining 13 year olds are driving me nuts. "I DEMAND HOTKEY REBINDING. YOUR [SIC] HORRIBLE DEVS IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT!!1!" This is a game STILL IN PROGRESS. They are GOING TO PUT IT IN. They haven't yet. You paid to play it BEFORE IT WAS IN yet. Tell ya what -- send me your paypal and I'll refund the game for you just so you will STFU.
There are some of us with experience programming, even programming games, who know full well how difficult some thing should be, and when someone is lying about how difficult something is. Key bindings have been "in the works" for more than a month and a half according to the devs. As a programmer, I find it beyond incredulous that they could not have figured out *SOME* method of changing the controls, even if it's a temporary fix, in that amount of time. They AREN'T working on it. They are working on adding content instead of fixing what is a vital flaw. And this is a vital flaw. Key binds, to some, are game-breaking. Some people are physically incapable of playing a game with the default controls, they need to customize it to play. If something is causing a portion of your player base to NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY THE GAME AT ALL, it is considered a top priority fix. This is no different than if there was a bug causing the game to crash on start for a small portion of the player base. They would have someone drop whatever additional content they were working on and work on fixing that bug, but key bindings are being being treated as cosmetic. This is, flat out, the wrong approach. Your own building analogy is very flawed. Here is how it should be: Imagine a skyscraper that is functionally complete, but still has several floors under renovation and construction while lower floors are being used (and yes, this does happen). Key bindings are like the elevators. You don't NEED them, you can go ahead and take the stairs! Well, SOME people can't take the stairs, but we don't really care about them here, now do we?
I understand what you want to say but tell me: what's the point in inviting people to your planet only to not party them? There's no need to send your coordinates to anyone you don't want to find you (strangers). No matter if PVP is on or off, the threat of players griefing your home always there as soon as you tell someone the location of your base. If you don't want to be killed or griefed by someone, don't tell strangers when and where you go to sector x and the chance that you will meet someone is zero. And by the way, there are still grenades and rocket launchers ingame, which can easily kill you even without PVP on. What I mean is: the feature does not affect gameplay in the littlest way. It's useless in my opinion.
