I'm really not upset about the brief delay, but it is slightly discouraging to go through multiple character wipes. I, for one, have decided not to play until the 'Final Wipe' passes over us. I agree that people shouldn't complain so much (it IS beta) but it feels a bit taunting to finally have the game but not feel as if you can really sink your teeth into yet.
This is why I generally avoid forums. Thats a pretty harsh accusation. Especially towards people that you don't know.
With full knowledge that it's an unfinished game and the there is no ETA on full completion let alone updates. So yes, that's correct.
In fact they already lost their grip when they decided to devote a considerable amount of thought and work to a system that prevents further wipes. Just because a bunch of whiners couldn't handle them even though they were TOLD UPFRONT multiple wipes were not only probable but to be expected! I'm willing to bet most of the time and work going into the next update goes towards this system, a system that will have no use whatsoever after the game leaves beta. This and the fact they haven't written an update for the main page in like ages causes me concern because in no early access game/beta I participated things like this were EVER a good sign, and I participated in quite a few by now.
Actually, that's exactly what I'm concerned about. I remember the beta stages like they were written down in http://community.playstarbound.com/...d-beta-information-and-important-notes.48141/ meaning that we are going to stage 2 now, the "Automaton" phase. And the introduction says So the time of adding content is over after this update. The time of adding features is over. The time where it makes sense to discuss core mechanics is over. And at the same time the developers stopped communicating in this forum. I guess it's time to get some popcorn and watch the drama as it ensues.
Cheers to that logic! All the explanations in the world won't stop some people complaining. All I can say is take a step back, take a breather and get some perspective on things. I just hope the more sane, liked comments out-shine complaints in the dev's eyes.
Considering it was said before the beta was released, "There would be small updates every day and larger ones every week." (Rough quote, but you get my point) That's not actually true, there 'was' an eta on updates. That being said, I'm actually with the "I'll just wait patiently and enjoy" group, so I really don't mind. Just felt like pointing that out
I swear, you guys settle down before the game ends up like Sonic 06, which was rushed to all hell and is now known to be the worst game ever.
"It's no use!" ... lol i'm sorry, i had to. Anyoo, who knows? I seen them work though and i have complete faith in whatever they do.
it is such a shame that so many expect a beta game to be a finished article i think the main problem with peoples expectations is its the facebook generation thing lots of games on there are listed as beta but are complete (to all intents and purposes) and a lot of beta release games are not opened up to public until much further down the line, it is only really those of us who regularly play "real" BETA games that understand the whole "stuff takes time to do" and "whoops that wasnt meant to happen cant do that yet" stuff the DEVS will update but not before they are reasonably happy the update wont cause a galaxy wide armageddon . use this time to goof around experiment with stuff and generally get ready for the next wipe so you can start getting attached to your avatar . OH and also STOP RUSHING through it this game is meant to be explored not ninja grind till end levels
You're assuming (wrongly, no doubt) that development and updates will stop at release. The current work on preventing future wipes is coding that's necessary for the game moving forward, now as well as after release. The devs are looking much further down the road than you are. The alternative is continued wipes after release, every time an update came out. That would be suicide for the game. The work they're doing now most certainly is necessary for the overall solidity of the game and longevity of it's player base. Don't confuse this with pandering to the fan base.
Bullshit. And simply pure assumption. Nothing more. These whining about updates is so much getting on my nerves. Did you think with paying your lousy 10 bugs you made the chucklefish members some kind of your personal secretaries who have to report whenever you feel like in need? Oh gosh. This early access habit nowadays is a real pain in the ass. Be happy that you can try out some things a long time before this game will be released. Remember that in the early days a game was done when it was done. You bought no options in any way. There is nothing you can really demand from the devs.
Oh, missed that. Still my point remains, these people paid knowing it was a beta, they're not entitled to anything as fast as they want just a game that they will get eventually. What they have paid for is a game still in progress that will have updates and delays and what not simply because it is an unfinished game. I'm with you in the wait and enjoy what i have until the next update inevitably comes. =D There also the fact that it was holidays so it's expected that there would be delays this time around. I'm almost sure once they get this big one out the others will come more frequently now that holidays are over.
Absolutely not, we should be seeing an update for starbound within the next week or so. Or so i have been told. Cube World will be seeing an update within the next month, by march i am expecting, i wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt happen though. The difference is cube world built too much hype and didnt deliver, the thing is wollay never updated it often, even in closed alpha. Starbound built a good amount of hype and delivered, with constant updates, as we also got constant updates on the game's progress before beta.
