We're all just anxious about how retail will turn out, in our own way. I'm sure Titanium doesn't want a completely realistic game, just one with reasonable abstractions. The fact that updates often bring us nice, but useless additions -- like holiday equipment -- make us worried about how little attention seemingly important problems get. While understanding that some of the things bothering us are there as placeholders for testing purpose, I'd give all the Holiday Spirits I've collected after massacring creatures and Santa costumes back for a reasonably abstract planet temperature model and rare living planets, things that are easy to implement and are for the benefit of the game not only for one measly holiday season but for the entire year.
The holiday stuff was pretty dumb, everyone i talked to complained about getting holiday spirit as opposed to pixels. Bleck. Make 'holiday stuff'' craft able with the normal bench/anvils and move on!
I was hoping to see more updates/presence from chucklefish staff. I loved it when Terraria devs sent out screenshots and teasers. I'm no forum crawler, but that made me come back daily to see what's coming and got me stoked to play the new patches. Is there at least a place on forums to quickly/easily see all admin/dev/moderator posts?
This is what I was saying when this update first came out... I got my head ripped off back then. Glad to see I'm not alone in my concern of the release of Christmas themed content. People were having trouble getting meat too, I think. This was a bad dev decision that wasn't thought through. Decisions like this quickly make me lose faith in the team.
I don't want to fight the corner for the devs too much, but I think arguments about structure on scifi cognition are sort of irrelevant at this point. The dialectic of [camp/kitsch scifi > mc style resource acrument > gradual "proper" consideration of alien environments] is something that's arguably worked to the game's success. The worst you could say is that people are coming here for scifi terraria, what that is isn't really something that's up in the air anymore and it's clear people are staying for it. As for pouring scorn over a clumsily implemented holiday gesture, lol, good grief...
When is the next update coming out? Sorry, I don't mean to rush you, it's just that I have a limited time to enjoy myself with a friend until March and just wanted to know if it's going to be out of Stage 1 before time time is over.
No update last week... so... That probably mean than they have something really interesting for us for the next update. I can't wait! Actually... In some ways, this game is a torture. Each news was making us wanted the game even more... and now, each update make us want the next one. Wait... wait... WAIT, AHHH! ... ... ... Well! Have fun my dears devs. We all wait
If I was a successful game developer on winter holiday season, I would sooooo not develop any game patches, but just sit in a comfy chair with a pipe preferably. Until like February. Also black jack and hookers.
The child is dead in people like you guys. This is a sad moment. You guys seriously need to lighten up. You're running around a little pixel game as birds, little monkeys and robots for cryin' out loud. I wonder about this too. Molly and others are posting all over twitter and stuff about other things. Seems they're taking a complete break from Starbound for a couple weeks. Kind of like they're sick of it for a bit and need to clear their heads.
We didn't like his comment, he's clearly a terrorist, it all starts from writing one crappy comment, next thing you know a plane is being hijacked.
Not me. I haven't touched the game since I read these patch notes. At one level, yep, this is just a silly game, and you're right. But on another level, this is about my monetary investment towards the game and my interest in it being a good one. So, patches that release things like seasonal content when the game itself still needs balancing is concerning on that second level. On the first level, it's simply a matter of 'hey, cool, Christmas stuff.'
TBH, I started out hanging on a thread (pun intended), for every update and fix, but once modding community took off, it kind of feels like they're picking up the slack. I've downloaded enough mods to the point where most of my complaints have been solved and I actually have a firm enough grasp of the file system/format to make any personal changes. It also gives me the feeling the devs are riding on this, but gives me hope that they're taking close notes.
I disagree, Adding holiday content is fine, the issue that everyone seemed to have was that it replaced and lowered the chance of things dropping that you actually needed, as opposed to materials to craft superficial items, that are going to get wiped away. It actively frustrated me finding hundreds of holiday spirits when what i wanted was meat or pixels to be able to progress in the game to try out late game content. I literally trashed probably 3k holiday spirits because they are worthless, whereas even if 10% of that had been meat, or pixels i'd have been in a better place
To add, I'm kind of confused how could getting more of Holiday Spirit be tied to animal cruelty, but I guess that's because the child is dead in people like me
