So as I was playing with my wife last night, we decided to built a shelter on our first planet which slowly expanded into a small base of operations. Unfortunately, we built it a decent way away from the teleport location. So now everytime we start the game we have to run all the way back to our base. It would be nice if there was a way to change where the teleporter sent you. I would be okay if this took a decent amount of resources to build some kind of target on the planet.
I've also had this idea http://community.playstarbound.com/...hip-to-land-on-the-planet.38183/#post-1392015
Well, yours seems to be around landing your ship, while I'm more interested in just changing the teleporter location.
Would be too easy to grief by destroying other people beacons. Ability to choose, from your ship, to teleport to anywhere on the planet (Where you have been) surface. Now that would be nice.
This is definitely a great idea! Especially for those times when super mobs are camping your beam down point and one-shot you as soon as you land...
I was thinking this but sometimes you can't think about the griefers. To be able to change the default spawn point on a planet would be useful AND it would improve one of the (only) problems with the game: travellng a long distance (which is a great part of the game and the difficulty) over and over again to something. To balance this it could be some sort of item like in Terraria that sets a spawn, or when you could use something on your ship to determine a new spawn BUT only in places you have already explored (Which makes sense to me)
yeah i has to be somewhere you have already explored, and i still think it should use fuel to beam somewhere different cost the larger the distance form original beam down location
Hey slightly off topic but do you tthink they will implement teleporters (2 pods you can teleport between on the same planet)?
I think the teleport beacon would be an excellent target for PvP once it's in the game, actually. It becomes an important point to protect because otherwise you're beaming down at the standard LZ, and whoever controls that controls the planet. I can actually see there being a couple tiers of beacon. The first would look a lot like the distress beacon: just a primitive transmitter for the ship to home in on. You'd beam down somewhere within a couple of screens, say a couple hundred blocks +/-. Then there'd be a more advanced beacon with better coordination with the ship, which brings you down within a few dozen blocks, somewhere on the same screen. The tier above that would be an actual teleporter pad that you would beam down onto precisely, but would still need to be exposed to sky. The ultimate version would be a both that allows teleportation into an enclosed space.
Why not have the ship actually move around the planet in orbit, and only beam you directly below it. When you want to beam somewhere specific, you can schedule a transport, and the moment the ship is above the point, it beams you down. A nice bit of realism which also solves a problem.
I believe I recall one of the devs in a stream chat mentioning that yes, they'd like to introduce a point-to-point teleporter system later in the game.
A method of changing the default drop location shouldn't really be required, but I do agree that the ability to land elsewhere would be particularly useful on the largest of planets. I would suggest that this take the form of some craftable item, but probably only make it a feature for Home planets.
