So ive been thinking the playable races in the game could get certain bonuses in certain terrain or biome...

take the lizard people for instance say if you where in a swamp biome they would get a boost speed or a boost health this would only last a limited amount of time, but maybe if one trait was increased one would be decreased until they are out of the biome. i seriously dont know how many types of biomes there are  but say the monkey people if you where to be in a jungle they might get a jump bonus or a damage bonus...

the robot people would get a speed bonus on the electrical planet but maybe their health would decrease or strength

and maybe the bird people would get bonuses in forests or something like that...

i might expand on this i don't really know but please comment and tell me what you think

These are pretty much racial abilites. The devs have said this won't happen.

I'm with Sarzael. At what point were their lizzard people?

And I don't really think this is necessary. Might be better to just have everything fair and square in regards to environmental bonuses / penalties.

I think he means the Hylotl, but they're more correctly salamander-people.

Anyway, as mentioned, these are basically inherent racial traits, which have already been vetoed by the devs. The only 'racial' traits a character has are the abilities provided by racial armor mods, and anyone wearing those armor mods can possess them. Further, while at first you will only have the crafting recipes for armor mods of your race, you can eventually learn to produce the armor mods of other races.

If you can rework the idea to fit in with this system, then yeah, it could work. Otherwise, no dice.

The Hylotl are loosely based upon salamander amphibians, such as the axolotl.

Why so grossed out? Eating amphibians isn't all that bad. What, never had frog legs before?

I agree with you. Different races should have different (dis)advantages (how a glitch, a floran and an hylotl have the same powers in water).
But devs said no. The only difference will be in their available armor mods. Maybe there will be a post-release upgrade or a mod for that.

What if I start playing as a glitch, and much later realize I want Hyltol powers instead?

Then you start another game as an Hylotl.

But you lose everything you've done.

You only have to start another game, no one force you to delete the old one.

Unless I'm mistaken quests are bound to characters. There are probably more things that are permanently bound to a character.

Racial abilities are just pointless, and annoying if you don't want/know about them.

Ironically, it's actually the only time I agreed with you.

I kind of wish there was more racial distinction. It sorta feels like choosing a race is ultimately irrelevant like choosing a skin; purely aesthetic. I'm not disappointed, but I kind of wish there was more uniqueness between races than what armor you can use use early in the game... Not complainin', just sayin'...

I didn't misunderstood anyone. I simply said that starting another game is not that dramatic. Plus, having racial abilities doesn't mean that armors cannot have powers too. So... third option:
    • Character A is an Apex (with Apex racial and armor powers)
    • Player invests lots of time in their game as Character A
    • Player wants to try out another race's powers
    • Player goes and buys some Glitch armor and gets to try it out with the same game progress (with his Apex racial powers and Glitch's armor powers)
Now, I never said that armors should have no power, but races should have some difference between them. The game will gain depth.
