Maybe a stabilization x-ray? I thought I made myself clear when I said that cave-ins occur in early game, more likely higher up. If you are high tear, or playing an adventure map, you are most likely going to have access to some like a stabilization device, that makes stone harder or such.
Instead of using stuff in the backdrop maybe there will be a way to reinforce blocks so that they will hold up the ceiling for a longer distance.Normal blocks can maybe go 20 blocks laterally or vertically before collapsing. while reinforced blocks can go like 30-40.If you can't reinforce a block because you don't have the materials i guess there can be a backdrop pillar that supports it another like 7 blocks.
I like having to place background supports, it makes mining more strategic instead of dig find ores and mine them.
@spire duh? @mittgfu an item to solidify stuff to make it just not cave in would be nice, but not everything has to be done with lasers just because its sci-fi @bughunter if blocks had to protrude 20 blocks before falling, we would never have this problem because that is a really big distance. @fuzzball dame these I keep having to edit this post to accommodate for your fast replys
Yah i like that idea Karoo about not everything has to do with lasers. I would like a sorta steampunk game with many variations. like maybe you could start with a pick but then after you mine a ton of stuff you can upgrade your mining tools to be eventually a laser.
@Karoo there's a reply button. What I meant was that that could be a main mission, was a cave in occurs and you dont have the equipment to mine through, so you find another way.
okay, that makes more sense, it would be difficult to do that since the terrain is random, so there wouldn't always be another way to the surface. they could do it if they had a special structure like abandoned mineshafts leading to the surface but filled with monsters? -edit- go write it in quest suggestions? lol, "doesn't have to be lasers but the best one has to be lasers"
No, not everything has to do with lazers! I said: "Stabilization device" or "...X-ray" No lazers at all. There are better things than lazers to mine. I think lazers will be one of the most simple mining devices in game. (Besides nuclear pickaxes ) Just one clear sentence: Cave-ins can not only blockade ways, they can open new ones too, and reveal what you might not have seen before.
Well what I meant was for the player to advance in technology. I didn't say the laser will be the best but it'll be good. maybe you will have to use certain special tools to mine special ores and materials.
Idk if someone already said this, but I imagine it will be like boulders and hit like 100's. (Got annoying but whatever.)
Ehrm, no?! This is a x-ray. This is a laser. Happy now? X-ray does not equal laser. Ok? Just to make things clear. Cave-ins consist of both, smaller and bigger boulders, and gravel (aka very small boulders). The first ones crush you, the second burry you.
I think both are light, just different flavors. (and not everything has to be done with x-rays just because it's sci-fi)
1. I already told you they could make things like that, but they are useless - rockets, chemical weapons and sabotage work much better in war. In space battles lasers would be an even worse way of attacking than here on earth. In sci-fi they are seriously overrated. Perhaps lasers will be used in war one day, but i doubt it very much. If i was a general i wouldn't use them for sure. Do you know what a laser is? It's a focused beam of light, basically. 2. I already said that they made the clouds scatter using some kind of technology in the last years olypmpics for example. And they are even capable of more. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing_Weather_Modification_Office 3. There is no point in cloning. I already told you. Animal cloning won't give more food or have any other use. Doesn't matter if they can live long or not. They could probably make it otherwise(the said problem has something to do with genes. Genetics could probably fix it if there was a point to do so, but it would simply be a waste of resources). Human cloning is forbidden to experiment with either way, even if it wasn't it would be useless anyway. 4. We are not sure if it's unrealistic. It might be either way. You might be wrong or i might be wrong. You haven't proved anything. When i gave arguments to the other side you turned to saying that we shouldn't get too realistic. 5. Yes, i know, but can't a spot become unstable? I mean will there be pre-set unstable spots around the planet like places there are pre-set places with ore when the planet is generated, or will some spots become unstable after digging? I thought that you meant the later.
Not both are light. I am seriously getting agressive here. X-ray equals radioactive beams. Lasers are bundled light. Is it so hard to understand this? 1. Ok, I give that point to you, just because I am too lazy to gather arguments on this one. 2. You said that clouds would scatter. I asked if they could cause a thunderstrom just like this. Clouds are easy to push away. You just need some unreal wind. Generating them in big masses, however is harder. 3. Human cloning does not work properly. A cloned human was already made once. It died instantly. The game allows us to generate a playable clone, that has the same memories or intentions as the original. This is useful. 4. From how deep we have mined until now, it's confirmed. But it would be not that good for gameplay. 5. Let's say that unstable spots are, where there is a too thin layer of stone, so that it could crumble. I already made a script allowing to calculate if this or that piece of cave could physically collapse or not. Just to see if it is possible. It is not too hard to make, so I think making cave-ins base on physicall circumstances would be a great idea.
