That one was a joke. If that weapon was seriously in the game I would cancel my preorder.

OP's idea is kind of amusing, but it's just trying to hard. Imagine watching a TV show where whenever someone says a joke the guy next to you starts telling you that you should start laughing now and continues to ask you why you aren't laughing for the next ten minutes. That's what I feel abut this idea.

What's with the Reddit UpVotes Hate?

 

It's obviously pandering to a bunch of people and has no real humor value except for being able to feel like you're in a secret club, except there's thousands of people in it so it isn't even secret.

The more time I spend on reddit the more I hate it. The front page is mostly stuff like "LOL I JUST TOLD THIS GUY ON FACEBOOK THAT GOD ISN'T REAL DAE LOVE BACON AND CARL SAGAN MY GIRLFRIEND MADE ME THESE UPBOATS LEL TROLL FACE WHO ELSE HATES EA?"

Basically, upvote gun adds nothing of value to the game and the audience it's pandering to is a giant echo chamber where every dissenting opinion is ignored and advice animals are still considered funny.

 

You are right about Reddit Community is more and more absurd with Time. But I hope to have another site / game funny references in-game, would be awesome.

For example:
If you find the Internet Explorer "e" symbol into a Fossil when they are added in-game, that would be a funny reference to a "pre-historic" browser eheh.

 

Still trying too hard. It's really immersion breaking, you know? If the jokes make sense and are something that would actually happen in that universe, then you can laugh at them and still get lost in the world.

I do not agree with your opinion, some games does have references, in Starbound confirmed:

• Creepers from Minecraft
• Monsters from Braid
• Fluros from Vessel
• Diggles from Dungeons of Dredmor ("hopefully")

Cameos aren't immersion breaking because it makes some sense for life from other games to exist in this universe too.

 

While I don't find your point wrong, I personally don't agree with it. I find some jokes that don't make a lot of sense to be funny at times.

I suppose in the end it depends on the association as well, not to mention the impact of said object to the game. For example, an IE-shaped fossil may not make sense, but it's not something I would cancel a preorder for. Honestly I would take advantage of it and satisfy myself by blowing it up.

As for the reddit gun, same goes. Then again, while it is a direct reference to Reddit, it's still really just a red arrow [and can even be associated with other things that contain a red arrow, such as Imgur's downvote.] Unless it's something really distinctive and unique, such as the Reddit logo, I wouldn't make too much of a big deal out of it.

I'm already not going to allow bronies or anyone who installs modded races in my clans and servers. Just because I don't like those.

This is going to sound strange, but I was certain one of the devs. tweeted about this already for confirmation. Then again, cats being prominent presence in the game as sentient, maybe it isn't...ethical.

On another note, I'm so excited for those creature cameos. I'd be so happy with a pet Diggle. Less happy with a pet Creeper.

 

I do like kittens, but I found it would be fun to throw cats away (plain dumb still, I'm ok with that)
But after a while, that would be less entertaining.
