I searched around, but couldn't find anyone having suggesting it, so here's a simple suggestion: A captain's log. Basically a window that can be opened in-game to write log entries about the various planets you visit with the ability to include screenshots, data on the life forms, and coordinates. It could also include the ability to export these logs to either a document format (Word, Acrobat, etc.) or even connect them to various social networks (not my thing, but some might like it) Sure, if you were motivated, you could do all this with an external program, but I thought that including could make the game that much more immersive. (hook it up to a text to speech program for the full effect) I know WAY back in the early days, there was talk about being able to log information about the plants and animals the player encounters on each world (it feels like ages ago now) so something similar to this may already be planned, but figured I'd make the suggestion anyway.

Wow, I was waiting for someone to suggest this, this is such a fantastic idea, adding notes to your discoveries is always fun and immerses you into the game world a lot more, they should definitely add this feature.
I had the same idea yesterday but I'm too lazy to actually suggest it in the forum So yeah, nice idea. I really like it, but I think connecting it to social networks would destroy the immersion again you'd create by implementing this.
I think you can already take notes in your logbook, but I haven't heard about exporting them. I'd love to be able to do that.
The devs have talked about logbooks. The devs have talked about social media connectivity. But both... combined? Just imagine the roleplaying possibilities alone. Add to it, now everyone can easily have their own Captain's Log Blog on Tumblr. While I don't think I would personally use such a feature, I'm all for it on the behalf of others who would.
Day 472: It happened. It finally happened. I thought that I could stave it off for a while but, alas, I have finally ran out of bacon. Pretty cool idea, I find. Could be useful for making lists about what materials to get and stuff.
Yeah, they've mentioned something about scanning life, planets, objects but that was long, long ago. Hopefully it's still in the game.
It reminds me of that device from Star Trek... It was something like Pokedex but you could scan anything with it.
