Cant place torches beyond a certain depth

    I was mining pretty deep on my home planet. I tried to place some torches on the background and on the floor and they kept popping off. Is this normal? Is this a bug or does it happen to everyone?

    placing them on non sand/gravel blocks and them popping off is definitely a bug.

    It could be that area of the cave has no background. when you are really deep it can be hard to tell. Ive found a few caves like this

    If you try to place them under liquid they will just pop off. I few times I was trying to put torches in the dark and didn't know I was trying to put them underwater.
