Can't attack random npcs anymore

This ruins the game for me. I play a Floran warlord and now I can't deal damage to passive npcs anymore. I've even tried stealing things from them to get them to go hostile but they don't seem to really care.

There has to be some way to change this.

I know what you mean, it feels weird not being able to attack passive npcs but at the same time I'm kind of glad that you can't. Sometimes I ended up accidentally hitting them while I'm trying to kill a mob and they start attacking me.

I myself am not particularly bothered by this, but there should most definitely be a "Friendly Fire" setting.

well, with the whole idea of "saving the universe/you're a Protector," it'd be rather counter-productive.

though, I do wish I could kill those freakin' Agarans.

That's kind of the problem. Now every character is forced into this specific role right from the get-go.

Well, nothing in the game prevents your character from forgoing it...

It's not very believable for someone to be graduating as a Lawful Good space cadet one day and then go Chaotic Evil space warlord the next without apparent cause.

I'll tell you what though, I don't miss being completely unable to help NPCs with fights because I can't shoot through them.
For what it's worth, it seems friendly NPCs will turn hostile if you break their stuff.
