The only way i can open stardew valley on my laptop is by going into the folder and double clicking the application, but this is a problem because i can't connect to my friends through steam if i can't access the game through steam. When i double click stardew valley in steam i get the following error:
Failed to start process for Stardew Valley:
"The system cannot find the path specified." (0x3)
This error has plagued me for some time now and i finally decided to make a post about it. Verifying integrity of the game cache tells me that the game cache is fine. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and it doesn't fix the issue, ive tried moving the install folder to the C drive and it did not help. I've also tried deleting the folder but this also did not help.
I believe this issue initially occurred when i tried to update the game when multiplayer was first coming out, i believe i had modded the game using SMAPI or some other mod and i then tried deleting and reinstalling and this might have caused the issue, but its been at least a year since the issue began and i've kind of forgotten the exact cause. It doesn't really make sense to me why reinstalling hasn't fixed anything.

I had the same issue tonight and it made multiplayer innaccessible.

I tried reinstalling and it made no difference. After checking the logs, I saw that the game was triying to start the modding API (wich is no longer present) instead of the game. I then resolved this by going to steam options for the game, launch options and correcting the launch path to the correct "Stardew Valley.exe" file.
