I was floating around on the Floran wiki (because why not? right?) And I just remembered us Florans eat each other, and almost any race (maybe not nova kids or Glitch). It would be interesting to see race related cooking recipes. Like Apex brain, Floran flowers, Grilled Hylotl, Stuffed Avian, etc. I know seems dark, but goes with the lore right?
Ah, I see. Anyway, as for the idea, I don't know if it's really necessary. While some sick people would enjoy it, others wouldn't be too keen on being able to eat other races. Considering the themes and general style of Starbound, it might be a bit too dark to have as a gameplay mechanic (even if it does fit in with lore). It might be better off as an optional thing, or even just left out in favour of modders adding it.
Yeah I was thinking that, that's why I posted it up for discussion. I thought of the idea mostly for the immersion purpose. The lore says Florans eat people, but do we really do it? From what iv'e seen from screenshots of culinary (But not the full game) I haven't seen anything related to that. Each race does start out with their own crafting recipes do you think that includes culinary recipes?
I imagine starting recipes would include culinary ones, yes. After all, players would need to be able to make food early on if they're playing with hunger active.
What? I ate a floran salad and a Hylotl'n chips! Ok that was a lame joke sorry. Also, what in the world will glitches eat? And novakids? They don't even have a mouth! Not so much of cannibalism except for the florans, but some races eating others is actually completely plausible.
You sir need to read the title. Yeah, that's kinda what I meant when I was talking about starter recipes. I think the devs. would have a blast trying to figure out what the Glitch/NovaKid eats. Nuts n' bolts cereal, and "Sun" flower seeds anyone? Yeah I think we both should stop with the jokes.
Yeah that's why I posted it. I'm trying to find a happy medium between the darkness and the light heartedness of the game. Right now I don't have a idea, it would be awesome if someone suggested something like that.
...You have my support. But, probably, you would have to make it so that npcs and players drop something in addition to their inventory content. Also, it should be balanced so that corpses, if not prepared properly, inflict major debuffs on you or can't be eaten at all. Ya know, farming sentient beings is amoral, but some guys I know are doing that.
I hope all races can cannibalize each other. It'll be a lot easier to support an empire if we eat the tourists.
Cannibalism in any way is really gross. Eating other races? Ok, if it makes sense. A human won't eat a avian (they don't eat birds) but that could eat hylotls. Also, a floran will not eat a glitch.
Hmmmm. Considering Starbound's overall theme, this most likely won't be in-game. How you could implement cannibalism without it actually seeming like a bad thing/be appropriate for all ages, is kind of beyond me. Personally though, I like the idea. (sorry, but I'm morbid like that.) Suppose your in a town and you go up to a merchant to buy some food. To expensive/not happy with the selection? Kill and eat the merchant (for FRREEEEEE). Taking that a step further, I think that if the corpse isn't cooked right/under-cooked, there should be a *high* risk of death/major illness (AKA be disgusting at your own risk). Cannibalism obviously couldn't be applied to the glitch though. Someone would have to think of some way around that. Kinda sorta maybe off topic: Tee-bagging is so dumb. Instead, when you kill someone in multiplier, shove your victory in their face by eating their corpse. Yeah, that's not gross at all...
Yeah I really can't see eating other sentient races being in the game as a mechanic, since it would just be to irksome to some people. However I could see it being mention in passing as a joke "Hello traveler, you look delicious, err... I mean healthy" or "I'm so hungry I could eat a <insert race here>". But eating something that is sentient tends to disturb people. I can see it being modded in later so that you could add in that ability if you wanted to, but I doubt it would.
