Can we please get an emergency hotfix ASAP for item dupping

Thank you for writing so many words relating to 3rd party cheat software that has no bearing on a simple exploit in the basic game mechanics and the rest of the unrelated rant about save editors in terraria. Next time please try to understand what the thread is addressing before posting.

 

SFJakes point is that there's absolutely no point trying to nuke duped items. While the 3D-Printer bug should obviously be fixed since it's a bug that many people might run across by accident, people that deliberately exploit it is a non-issue since the game will not be making any attempts to prevent cheating on "open" servers. Later servers will have server-side saves and might even be able to run VAC or something similar but we're far from that stage.

 

I struggle to see how that was the area he was referring to but on the point of trying to nuke duped items I realised that doesn't really matter due to char wipes anyway and there I would have to agree. But the real issue of course is the 3d printer being able to do what it does and figured that would be the main focus of discussion and not what happens afterwards.

 

So the 3D printer has an exploit, big deal. You brought it up, they'll fix it. Problem solved. They are not going to fix it ASAP, it is a silly thing that doesn't matter right now and it really wont matter when they game is out of beta. People will always find a way to dupe things. Just get used to it and it'll be a lot simpler.

 

Did you even read the points made about platinum? It is a damn good one, and meshes with personal experience.

As a computer programer, I would leave it in my self, then remove it in the final version, shortcuts are GODSEND for beta-testers, they allow them to test shit that would normally take hours in minutes.

Forcing every one to take the linear path may very well lead to a bug free environment early game, but after a while you get diminishing returns, people start to report the same bugs, and no new ones are found, all at the same time the end game is full of them, because no one reached it.

As such, unless they feel like just adding pre-programed starts "Early-Game, Mid-Game, End-Game" which is what I do, it is actually in there best intest to leave it until near the end.

 

If you're insinuating I've abused this bug, I'm sorry to say you're mistaken. But thanks for the assumption, it was appreciated.

The bug will eventually be fixed. But even if it is, you do realize there is a far more efficient manner one can duplicate items that is far harder to patch, yes? Simply literally copying your player data effectively duplicates EVERYTHING you have. Eventually, people will crack the player file format as well and create inventory and stat editors, much like they did in Terraria. is.Save Authenticity Verification is literally impossible to manage when save data is stored on the client computer... and there is nothing the devs can really do about it except having player data be stored server-side, but then you won't be able to use the same character across multiple servers or single player. I'm sorry, but this is not an issue that is going away, I feel the need to say this. Your expectation of being able to go to a public server and play without cheaters is pretty much impossible. I'd highly encourage you to play in a private server with your friends if this is what will give you a fulfilling gaming experience.

 

There's a character wipe coming with the next update anyways, which will probably also fix the dupe glitch.

You don't seem to understand the reason people are disagreeing with you. No one here is saying the bug shouldn't be fixed. They just don't believe it is such a big deal that we need "AN EMERGENCY HOTFIX ASAP!!!!!!!" like your OP and thread title suggest.

 

Even easier then coppying the player file, filling the ships locker with every thing you want to copy.

Going to the save folder and backing up just the ship file, returning to the game and moving every thing to your inventory, then restoring the ship file, rinse and repeat, much easier since you dont really have to set up any system to merge the inventories...

This is similar to how you dupe items in borderlands, which is a much bigger issue then here, since it is an I dont know finished game?

 

heh I'm just helping the thread stay in the spotlight because I would very much like it dealt with in the next update. in regards to the point that duping will always be possible, I am well aware of this but for such a simple means of duping I would like to make sure it is known so it is dealt with. In regards to other peoples comments on the title of my thread, you do realise what ASAP actually stands for rite ? just incase I will help you "as soon as possible", not drop what you are doing and fix this now.

Item duping, while not good, isn't something that requires an "emergency hotfix asap". They're working on balancing the progression currently, and I think that is more important. Let them get the game mechanics down, then start to work on exploits and the like.

 

Razor2k12- You are fighting a lost cause. Most people who are playing this game are cheaters and they don't care much for the fixes. Just makes getting past using s 3rd party easier. You have to realize that most humans are lazy and prefer the fast and easy way for instant gratification.

Like everyone said. It's beta, and in all regards a single player (offline) game. It's not a big deal, just don't dupe and don't play with people who do.
