Can I just throw this out about modding?

I just wanna say, the fact that the devs not only actively support modding, but are planning on making it even easier to mod their game is a very VERY welcome motion in gaming? I mean the game is already 10/10 would get tattoo of, but for example: The guy who did Binding of Isaac was SO MAD about potential modding, he cancelled the newest xpac "And Judas Spoke" after wrath of the lamb took off. Just saying, devs that understand gamers make me happy.

 

I've always been a huge modder msyelf, and I agree with you 100%. There are some formats where I feel modding takes away from an experience or creates disparity when in reference to mmos like WoW (although I created more addons than I can remember!). Having said that, sandbox games that have a really easy to access framework truly become endless content due to mod communities. I'm looking forward to delving into this game's mod scene soon, can't wait!

 

Despite some of my recent comment/complaint/suggestion posts, doing it like this is Doing It Right. Kudos to you for not trying to be so severe to one single 'vision' you can't see the mountains of potential, as a modder and lover of mods I salute AND thank you.

 

Modding is like at least 70% of the reason why I get Elder Scrolls and Bethesda's Fallout games. While the base games are enjoyable, it's great to know that two or three years later I can reinstall the game, look around on the internet for some amazing mods that almost completely change and revitilize the game, and enjoy it all over again.

Nobody in their right mind should oppose modding. I mean, I can understand not actively going out of your way to support it, but if someone finds a way then the devs should just be happy that their games now have that much more longevity.

Then again, one of my friend's favorite pastimes was to grab stuff from Ed McMillan's twitter and link me it which usually ended up being scat porn and the like. So yeah that guy is not in his right mind.

 

I almost have more time in Skyrim's Creation Kit than I do in the actual game itself >.>

 

The problem lately is many devs especially big companies are more focused are forcing players to play the game only their way and any deviation outside this is viewed as absolutely wrong.

 

And if people can just mod it in, then how can you possibly sell it later as overpriced DLC?

 

Luckily Starbound won't have any DLCs. I believe one of the reasons some creators go out of their way to eliminate modding is that people can simply mod DLC content into the game.

 

This is usually the truth, I've found. Either that, or to stay true to some overblown 'vision of the game' they had. It would be like if you bought a red car, decided you liked it blue, and upon going to paint it they told you 'sorry, that doesn't match the car designer's vision'. Or "no, but you CAN buy a flame stripe pattern (from an official dealership only!)

 

I think the sad thing is while technology has advanced and many other things have video games deevoling and becoming less open, with less playstyles and player options available.

What the hell are you going on about? Not only is the new expansion coming bundled with Rebirth, the creator of SpiderMod for Wraith of the Lamb impressed Edmund so much, he was personally asked help work on Rebirth.

 

Now that sounds more like Edmund. I thought there was something suspect about him getting upset over a Mod to binding of Isaac. This makes much more sense.
