i really think that this should not be sold on steam and it should be sold on the website because steam has stopped working for me and i am sure its happened to a lot of people plus if it was to be sold on its own website it would give it more originality :D

If steam has stopped working for you I suggest you contact Steam Support.

Just because something doesn't work for you, doesn't mean they should change their minds on how they are distributing the game. Especially since Steam is a very reliable application. I have yet to have a single issue with it myself and I've had it for nearly a decade.

I would kill someone if my Steam stopped working, I have over 200 games there. I am sure your problem is fixable, but I don't know what is wrong with your Steam so I can't help you.
But can't we like get DRM free coppy? I am sure I have seen it somewhere if you can get DRM free coppy or not.

The beta will be DRM free. But I don't know anything of the official release.

Personally I find DRM to be a waste of time. It's always circumvented.

steam that have NEVER happened, id say it something wrong on your end.
This game should be sold on steam and i dont see any other reason to why
its should be sold anywhere else to be honest. So contact the steam support
wait 2 weeks untill they contact u back ( i know they freaking blow ) Or just
    google the problem.

I think it's also going to be available on the humble bundle store. To my knowledge all of the Chucklefish published games are available on steam and HB.

    Don't worry dude!

I do think that people should be given a choice for a stand alone, or steam version, BUT i will be using steam. Sorry. =)

... from my understanding we would have a choice between stand alone or steam key. Am I mistaken mods? Someone? Could'a sworn we would have a choice and it was written somewhere but I can't find it.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this... but it's already available without Steam (Humble Store links). They've confirmed long ago that it wouldn't require Steam. That there's a standalone version. And we already have a Humble Store link to the page that it'll appear on. I'm sure the Steam version will have lots of nice fancy features like the Workshop eventually though.

Mods are going to be an important part of Starbound I forsee.

  11. afaik pre-ordering will give you a copy of the game and then a steam key for it, so you technically get two copies

EDIT: You're right. It's actually the third sentence on the order page. http://playstarbound.com/store/
    People need to read more.

As for Steam having "stopped working" I have never heard of that happening ever, so "lots of people" seems like an exaggeration. The first question that comes to mind is, what did you do?

I thought so, but I didn't have the time to check, work kept me from the verification research. Thank you for clearing it up!

If steam has stopped working for you, I'm sure there is a fixable explanation that steam support can help you with. Also, iirc it will be purchasable on the site and steam, I assume the site purchase would give you a steam key, but not vice-versa.

I'm sorry but I have to admit Steam is absolute shit in some terms, and if you've never had a problem with it (In 6 years?) Then you're either lieing or DAMN lucky.

I like how you have to have an internet connection to play your games, and you have to launch the games you want to play before switching to offline mode or else it won't work. Because you know, sudden power outages / internet failures are always predictable and you should know. It's clearly your fault. Then, if you don't go online in a week or so, you get locked out of your games.

Because fuck you, we don't care about your satisfaction. We care about your mone- PLAY your games, you say, Navy personnel that is out at sea and won't have internet for months? Hah, fuck you. Thanks for the money.

Yeah, sorry to say but that's pathetic. If Steam fixed this I'd likely have no problem with them, but that's pretty much a gigantic middle finger to every person who's not fortunate enough to have an internet connection. /endrant

(Also you can just buy the game from the pre-order thing like the others said. xD)

As someone who doesn't want to use steam myself, I still have to ask whether this was necessary. It's been established that SB will be available without steam, so there doesn't seem to be much point this. The option is already there to avoid steam. It would be better to save your rant for forums whose devs/pubs use steam (or origin etc.) exclusively.

Have ya tried Logging out of Steam, then logging back into it? Once in a long time my Computer takes its sweet time at connecting to the Internet instead of its usual promptly connecting, & this seems to screw up the Steam Auto-Login... & logging out & back in when your connected properly fixes stuff. :)

Though, this makes me wonder... will it be a good idea to DL & Install both the Steam & Humble Bundle Starbound on the same Computer, just in case... & can Characters, Worlds, & such be transferred between them freely...? Steam does seem to have less than stellar Code, so it could come in handy to be able to transfer your Starbound Stuff to the Humble Bundle version temporarily as a back-up way to play the game in case Steam screws up temporarily & one has to await it getting fixed...
