Calculated Release Date

So I've been looking at the road map since it was released and Tiy's twitter and posts on here. Using the percentages on the Road map I figured out that the game was approximately 65% complete. The earliest date for development I can find is February '12 so using that I worked out that at their current rate the game would be released November this year. When Tiy stated that Omni and Bartwe have second jobs, and thus the preorder would allow them to work full time on the game, I took this into account (assuming there'd be 7 developers all working full time) They'd finish sometime in September. Of course this is very rough and doesn't take into account the different speeds that things take to develop, the fact that Bartwe wasn't part of the team since the beginning and isn't anywhere near the critical path analysis that it could be, but at least it provides a generally less vague release date for people who are ravenous to know one

Based on the length of Tiy's scarf times the diametre of mollygos' lenses to the power of the weight of Bartwe's ponytail, Starbound is going to be released today.

There has been a similar calculation in the past with the result being somewhen in August. Of course this is all speculation, bear that in mind, since you cannot really calculate things in this manner, as you've said. ^^

To be honest i don't think even calling this a "vague release date" is even close to accurate. The truth is no one knows except the team any of the information needed to calculate a real estimate.

Too much assuming here. We can't be Sure.

We can only be more certain about BETA ready, than RoadMap Ready. (and they both are the same since they will launch BETA when most roadmap is 100% - said in AMA)

Yh, I get that there's far too many variables and at the end of the day the devs are humans, they could say "Hey lets release next week" for all I know, or their office could get shot up by space hobos, destroying all the code and they'd have to start again. It was more something fun to do with my time, take it all with a pinch of salt

This is why you're wrong:
1. Tiy has stated that not everything is on the roadmap yet.
2. Tiy has stated that when everything on the roadmap is 100%, it will be the full game. So, the beta is probably going to be released earlier.

 

I calculate the release to be sometime in 2013. Probably some time after today. Probably.

Far too many variables. Most of us guess the release will be around/in Fall, but those remain only guesses. Only the devs have a guesstimate as to when, and they're not saying, just in case their estimate is off. All I can say is try not to be impatient and demand an earlier release. Keep in mind that would only be an unfinished and rushed product, and no one would be happy with that.

My guess is we will have beta between mid may and the end of may, with full release coming around the end of july.

The team, up until now, has been working other jobs as well as working on Starbound. Now that they have an influx of money they said they'd be spending much more time making Starbound so comparing the production now to when they first announced it is fallacious.
