just having a little fun c: Habitat: Technological ruins, recently wild areas with plenty of surfaces to hang from. If they have started to breed true and make nests, none have yet been found. Biology: Unnatural - mutated specimens from unknown experiments, possibly some sentient origin. Might be escaped lab experiments from a crashed alien ship, or from a forgotten lab. "Mutters" to itself and others, but not certain if actual language or animal sounds. Despite the eyes on its tail, it has weak vision - hunts primarily through touch and vibrations. Size: About the size of a bullmastiff - light for its size with a soft abdomen and thin limbs. Methods of attack: Ambush predator, prefers the dark. Intelligence is evident in its methods of wearing down prey with psychological terror, often deliberately exhausting frightened and confused prey for hours with its muttering, chattering teeth and gentle brushes of its claws before finally going for the kill. Weakness: Despite its appearance, it's a little fragile which is why it depends on weakening prey by exhausting it mentally and physically. It relies primarily on creating a confusing environment where it's difficult to pinpoint with normal vision or hearing.
Out of all of the entries so far, this is one my top ten. Very imaginative and I could really see it fitting well with the game. I would do a mockup of a pixelized version of it so we can see size wise what it would look like. If you can't do the pixel art (i'm horrible at it myself lol), then someone on here might be able to help you, otherwise fantastic job! Good luck with the contest!
Very unique! Might be a little hard to implement into a 2D game, but I'd love/hate to see this in a real game!
Seriously, it just headed my personal list "Things that I would not want to find under my bed". Must. not. to. sle
It's a whole other ballgame... You would think coming from a hand drawing background that it would be easy to place pixels down, but I find it a painstaking chore. *lol* Maybe because I'm more into the strokes of art and painting and not the finer dabs and mechanics.
@aiMarz: hmm.. it might have to be bigger than a bullmastiff to fit the artstyle, but i could see it working in a Ragnarok Online kind of detailed pixel art ^^
Yeah, I know what you mean... But you may be surprised at the amount of detail you can fit in with the pixel aspect ratio they have for the game. Give it a try and see how it goes, if you have to make it slightly bigger, I don't think that would hurt it at all.
Frighting huh? Beautiful art you have. I like the way he create an atmosphere of terror to weaken his prey.
If you don't have much luck in MS PAINT try Graphics Gale, its free and pretty powerful! http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/ EDIT: Also, thats a wonderful piece of art, do you use a tablet? And if so, what kind? Because I've been looking in to one here of late, but can't decide.
@TriOrvis: thanks ^^ intuos3, itz getting a little raggedy ^^ saving for intuos5. There are other brands which are just as great though so should research. id want a cintiq more but besides the cost theyre really hefty, and i already trained myself to be used to drawing with the intuos. maybe one day. ill give that program a shot!
What is the pixel aspect ratio for Starbound? I am curious, 'coz I haven't been sure how big to make any sprites I may or may not be working on.
