so i keep doing this. standing on the crafting table, i press 'c', and is presented with the crafting menu.
so why cant i craft the f*in anvil. nooo, you have to press 'e' to get the same menu up, only now you have lots more alternatives..
this is just confusing as hell for new players imo..

No. Because E is for [Activate Animated Object or Crafting Object] Door,Chest,Smiting. Starbound have no time to put all [Crafting Or Activate Object] On a Specifies key. The best is continue with [E] and In the long run you will be used. And C is already a Keybind for [Basic Crafting]

since both keys brings up the crafting menu when standing on the crafting table, there is nothing that stops them from displaying the whole crafting list when pressing C, so i dont really see how your argument is valid..

Tell me why put the crafting table for [C] and all other activate item on [E]. I don't really see how your idea is valid too.
Because you only need [C] For start. after you make a crafting Table, the only Reason why you press C is for make some torch or Firecamp. So for 2 Item important. Why change a key because you have a problem with this?

    With All my respect.

you dont seem to understand my point. its not to replace "E" with "C" when standing on the crafting table, what i mean is to have both. since they now both bring up the crafting menu (when standing on the crafting table), its just confusing that the full crafting list doesnt appear when pressing "C", even when standing there...

Oh ok!. I understand your Point. I have no problem with this. I agree too. But I never use C frequently. that why :)
But i guess if you want integrate C for Crafting Table too. Put Some Range of 3 or 4 Block as the System with E and the range of your mouse. And not [When you stand on the Crafting Table]

    aws Yeah, You!

I think the point is that one is INTERACT and the other is CRAFT. Think of this way: I can make a torch on the table or I can make it standing, and one requires interaction (E) with the table and the other is an activity for which the table is optional.

From a programming point of view these two actions remain distinct. Yes, you could modify craft to detect locality of object, but since you can interact with things from some distance it would start showing up the craft table and the anvil (and their upgrades) and the weaver and the printer creation if you have a ship that looks like mine. Consider the screenshot (well two, stapled together standing in the same place) from a planet:

The titles differ, and one even indicates you've gone into a non-interaction menu (with the [C]); the other is just an interaction UI element.

If we get access to keybinds and basic wrapped interactions (i.e. changing what C does) we can do detection, until then you can only really tweak E.

Anyway, people actually press C after they've got the table? I make the pilgrimage back to unload stuff before I get more torches anyway...

programming point of view isnt really a valid aspect here since we are players and not programmers. and it could easily be programmed in such a way that it would only show when standing by the table, i dont really see that as a problem..
cant consider your screenshot since the link is broken..
