Burn out due to updates.

So I honestly need to just forget about this game. I need it to be completely wiped from my memory except two facts. 1. That starbound is amazing and I preordered it. 2. that I need to check it to see if it was released every year or so (check it once in june, once in december). I am pretty sure there is not going to be a true beta, just a "3 days till full release, here is your early access! *balloons*".

I absolutely love starbound but this is waaaaay to painful to get super excited to see the update and extremely disapointed that it is not even close to beta or release, it is slowly making me hate the game cause I am beginning to only associate it with negative emotions which is not a good thing at all. I want to fully love and enjoy this game like I know I will, I just can't handle this roller coaster of emotions it brings every morning. ​

It's a very difficult wait, but who says beta isn't close now?
I think they might announce it at the convention later this month.
At least, that's what I am hoping! Must have hope!

 

That's the entire problem right there, we are hoping for something that may not come. If we do not get a beta till a week before release and that is a year away, most of us will have been so emotionally burned on this game that by then we will have left the game before it even began. Chucklefish is in a hard spot right now. I agree with their motives but it doesn't make it less infuriating and depressing. If they stopped the daily updates it would make it worse. The only way to alleviate this is to give a concrete date so that we are not flung about every day saying "Is this the day we get beta?!?!?@!?!@#!$#@!%!$#@!!!!".

 

I do this with games I'm waiting for. I go on a small hiatus and then I come back to see how things are coming along. The nice thing now is I'm waiting on a few games so when I get exhausted on one I switch and start creeping on the other. I could be productive in my free time but...nah.

I don't think the date you created your forum account marks the same day a you start anticipating the release. Many people lurk.

 

Nice so you were also there for the Humble Store preorder! Ive been waiting since February of 2012. I definitely feel your pain but the last couple months since the second wave of preorders has really kicked this game to the forefront of my mind, before it was just a concept yet to be made, now its a full fledged game that is just out of reach. Its like talking about a pizza parlor and the idea sounds good but you are not near it so waiting isnt so bad, right now we are at our tables in the parlor waiting for the amazing pizza to be brought to us, it makes the wait insufferable!

 

But making a thread about the never coming pizza doesn't make the wait any better.

 

I sympathise with you, but there is an entire world out there filled with things people do to amuse and distract themselves. The team is literally busting their backs to deliver their vision to you as quickly as they can, the daily updates are something very few ever give their fans with some vanishing for months on end only to finally post an update with very little done.

I only hope the team doesn't feel like they are handing out free rocket packs and strawberry milkshakes only to have them thrown back in their faces because the rocket packs didn't come with a cup holder for said milkshakes

 

It actually does, you get people who look at things in different ways and you can see different perspectives. Your perspective helps me cope and in return I respond and try to understand where you are coming from. forums are like great amphitheaters where thousands if not hundreds of voices resound ideas against the walls and anyone may add their voice to the collective. Just because my idea or frustration is not seen as positive it is still valid. I absolutely love this game even though I have never played it and my hopes for it are very high. But those same hopes makes my feelings towards it very wavering and torrential.

 

Although this is a big waiting, X-Rebirth it is a real long wait . You'll get use to it, i swear.

 

As much as I love the daily updates, I'd agree that they can sort of be wearing, in that it always sounds like the beta must be close. Pretty sure now that the beta is a fair way away - the latest newsletter emphasized that there is still a lot to be done despite the fast progress lately.

 

I praise them for their hard work and the updates are fantastic. I liken this situation to my heart medication (I am 24 years old), My doctors give them to me and I gladly take them for I know they are good and keep my heart from shredding itself but the side effects are terrible, my quality of life is less then stellar but I am still able to work a full time job. I like my heart medication but I hate its side effects, If I do not voice the side effects I am getting from my medication then I am just quietly suffering and nothing is getting fixed. Yes they are just temporary till I get my heart surgery (Another thing I am super anxious about and waiting for a date) but I can not make it come sooner..

 

I know it has been a roller coaster, but somehow I suspect we are getting close based on some of the things Tiy and other devs have said in recent updates. Hang in there a little longer

 

It's a modern problem I agree. See it all the time on facebook and twiitter people vent like it's there journal.

Boredom... well at least that's what i feel right now, i even became more interested in Terraria update...

 

Ya know, after following Dwarf Fortress' development, none of these other games bother me too much. DF gets a new patch roughly once a year. At one point the developer all but disappeared for 2 years while he re-wrote the game from scratch. The estimated release date is "sometime in the next 20 years". After all that, having a release date set for the current year feels positively quick by comparison.

Yes it does. People vent and find some solace in communicating about their problems.

 

Okay I'm all for beta coming out for whenever this year before I get jumped, but I have to make this observation.
You can play and have been able to play DF for a loooong time now.

So I don't see how it compares to people suffering beta withdraw from being unable to play.
