Bullet-time!

I know this would be probably hard to implement in a massively multiplayer game, but here it goes anyways: I've been playing Killing Floor lately, and every time you kill an enemy in a "spectacular" way (or several enemies in one shot), the game switches to bullet-time for about a couple of seconds, which makes it very enjoyable.

If this game had custom death animations, ragdoll physics or whatever, it would also rock to have that bullet-time for certain kills. Of course, this would put the game in bullet-time for everyone for a couple of seconds, which could turn into something annoying, but if this would be restricted to very special kills (boss kills!), it could really be extremely awesome!

I believe this would be possible for a single player mode as slowing down a game for one player is simple, But slowing the game down to show a cool kill in a multiplayer game would be difficult to pull off. Would only u slow down? or would everyone on the planet?

That being said nothing beats bullet time in terms of coolness

Re-read my post, as I said this would slow everyone, of course, because it is impossible to slow it only for one person (else the timeline would be messed up). Just try out Killing Floor if you can and you'll see what I mean, as it does it in multiplayer, not only singleplayer.

Also, another coold addition, as this slowing down would be done only on certain "special" kills, a message could be printed by the server stating to everyone that you just killed <whatever> by burning it to death!

Unless they have plans for good animations or physics for death, I don't think bullet time is really needed. It's cool in Cobalt, and some other games that feature 2D side scrolling adventure, but I don't think this will need to be implemented.

If they do have awesome plans for animations and death of large creatures, go right ahead. lol

Yeah, absolutely, it would be pointless if there was no epic death animations, I have to agree. This is more of an extension of that feature, if it was ever added ^^

It shouldnt be hard to make a client side "slowmo" effect when you die yourself, but having a forced serverwide slowmo effect wouldnt be liked very much, I belive.

Max Payne 3 made that other users seeing the bullettime user would be affected by that.
The only pain (lel ecksdee i do pun) is that while Max Payne 3 has alot of obstacles, covers and other solid objects, Starbound is on an open field, so everybody would be affected, unless it's limited to a certain area.

It could be even as simple as a "take a moment to remeber [player name]" with a Hunger games-esque cannon fire and portrait in the sky. The user probably won't even be able to help but stop and look
