Pretty simple if you have enough materials in your inventory and found the template in your inventory {Perhaps one you have created your self}. You can quick build a building like a bunker instantly while consuming the materials in your inventory. I could see this being useful for if a storm or elemental disaster strikes you can quickly take shelter and wait it out.
Hmm, this seems like a good idea. I've heard from somewhere that we're going to be using blueprints to make structures and stuff. So that's probably what they had in mind for building machines and buildings.
Sounds like a good idea! But you shouldnt be able to throw up a castle in like 3 seconds like that, it would be kinda scary. Instead, what about a building time? like 1 second for every... 10 blocks used in the building? that sounds like it would be fair... so a castle would take time to build... not just be instantly put up. Sure, you wont have to build it yourself, but it will still take a while to put up.
What about adding the idea of shareable templates? We can share coordinates with each other and the game has strong multiplayer so maybe we can create our own templates and share them amongst the community. Kind of like map sharing, but with buildings.
Seeing as how the only way to keep a generated template is to have it saved to a file somewhere, it wouldn't be hard to share them. just post the file i would assume?
I agree with most of the people who posted on this thread. There should be(or are) templates; it shouldn't be instantaneous, you could have NPCs work on them and the more you add the less time it takes; and custom templates that can be shared would be great.
sounds good /sign BUT, maybe this could lead to people being really lazy and not using their creativity. why build your own base, if you can just take a template and chill out until it's finished?
Yeah, this is a great idea. To pull out maybe a blueprint and see a grid for placement would be really useful...
I see where you're coming from with this, but we just need to hope that people would use these as templates. And that people would have the creativity to make their own, better bases.
If they don't then they are only hurting themselves. The "every item" map in Terraria was publicly available and it didn't seem to dampen the game at all. If people want to be lazy and get their items/creations some other way other than traditional means, then all the power to them. I for one love starting fresh and gathering all the stuff I need to make awesome creations and items on my own, or with buddies. Not with someones map. But the templates could be used very nicely. Maybe the starting NPCs (if there are any for that matter....) give you a very basic rectangle house template. All you need to do is gather the materials and make a space for the house. You could start the building process while gathering more materials for other things, while your NPC friends build up your little shack.
Well, that sounds reasonable. When I think of it, downloadable worlds didn't wreck Minecraft or Terraria, either! I'm taking back what I said earlier!
I think it would be more realistic if instead of just plonking a structure down it should force YOU or a crewmember to actually take the materials and contruct it block by block. Sorry.
It might be for the best if you could just have both, modular building with blueprints AND block by block building for detail and personal touch...
We have an agreement. But modular building would not be too big, maybe in parts. Or rooms. And it should take time, like constructing a building in an RTS like starcraft. Not just: *uses blueprint* (1 millisecond later) *BOOM ENTIRE BUILDING APPEARS*
I like the idea of an overlay, kind of like telling you where to place the blocks with a semi-transparent gride-like system.
yeah, exactly... Not HUGE buildings... just room by room blueprints, so even if you don't want to put in the time for block-by-block you can still have a certain degree of customization. Maybe have multiple different themes for modular pieces...
