I've seen a few threads in this here crafting sub-forum regarding the desire for more varieties of craftable bricks made from the plethora of materials found on almost every world we hardy little travelers encounter. Now, as an artist IRL who occasionally works with clays, I thought adding a new crafting station to the game might be interesting; a Kiln. This would be used specifically with gathered materials- sand/clay/dirt/mud/stone/gravel/etc to produce various bricks/tiles/decorative items. Not just stick one item in like sand=sandstone, but adding various materials like mud+gravel=cement blocks or clay+fine sand=ceramic. Keeping the original colour of the primary block as well, so we could create ceramic tiles in a lovely leaf green using fine sand we plucked off that desolate moon we visited last week, or some rusty red bricks using the magma-rock for this darling new kitchen I'm building. AND... these bricks can also be used with blueprints or "molds" to produce decorative items like pillar-tops or sconces or fireplace mantels or decorative urns or..... whatever! Furnaces are great for smelting... but I'm not talking smelting, I'm talking about baking. I'd love to set up a workshop on my home-world, when I build one, as it'll come the closest to an artist studio on my little space homeworld!
i agree that there should be a kiln, but upgradeable into something that can make fantastic synthetic and sci-fi materials later on. Mud/Brick Kiln-> Electronic Kiln -> Synthetic Kiln -> Molecular Recombiner With materials like mushroom, tar, flesh, crystal, plant material , etc being used to make curiosities and hybrids in the latter variants.
I like the idea of an upgradeable model- 'cause I've seriously always wanted to know what happens when you bake Flesh blocks and Slime blocks together, with a bit of Bone
Mmm pizza. Yes yes, kilns would be a very welcome addition. Considering my line of work, I'd ask for a wood lathe, but turning anything made of blocks tends to just cause destruction.
I must admit, the idea of making something to create Bricks would be a nice idea! Right now the Smelter can be used to turn Sand into Glass, Ores into Bars, and Wood into Coals... But a Kiln can easily do the Glass and Coal things, and it can be used to make Bricks and Pottery! I support this idea! The crafting table can be used for extremely basic Blocks. The Anvil and Metalwork Station can make Metal Blocks. But lets allow the Kiln to make Brick Blocks!
