Closed [Bug Report] Access Violation on Win XP.

    The update has fixed the Splash logo issue and now moves everything one step forward. Game no longer ceases at the end of the Chucklefish logo with no indication of what's happening.

    Now:

    Error: Access violation detected at 0x77c33509 (Read of address 0), A stack trace dialogue,
    The splash screen ends, displays the loading bar. And then some CPU use (a change from the original bug) but the game goes no further.​

    Current steps taken: Updated C++ runtimes to 2010 package. Updated SDL runtimes (1.2 and 2.0). Tried Open GL safemode, Renamed _OpenGL to Starbound. No change in behaviour.

    Leaving the program running for a bit seems to produce a loop in the stack trace, going back a few addresses and then cycling through again.

    Previous patch, the Starbound server appeared to work (hard to confirm since I couldn't play. But it created the universe folder and the majority of warnings were for slow assets.) Now it is suffering from the same issue as Starbound itselt- Access violation 0, a short stack trace and halting before the Universe files are created.

    It 'froze' for me, I could not close the error message and had to close Starbound via taskmanager.

    XP Home 32 bit SP3.

    I tried again, this time I tried to run Starbound in safe mode, with anti-virus 'active protection' turned off.
    Same error, then it spat out something about Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. (the message got 'whited out' when I opened up notepad, so I didn't catch what all the details were)

    I'm afraid I'm getting the same issues as everyone else here. I actually got past the Chucklefish logo the first startup after the patch - but didn't get past the loading screen immediately afterward. Now I get access violations with every startup.

    One to three error message windows will appear. These mesages are, in the rough order they appear:

    This seems to occur regardless of whether or not I'm using Starbound.exe or Starbound_opengl.exe.

    looks like im in the same boat. hopefully its an easy fix for the team. glad to know im not the only one at least, i thought it might have been a problem with my PC itself.

    This isn't just a Windows XP problem. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. I have this problem as soon as I try to launch the game from the launcher. It hangs a bit, then comes back with the "access violation" error windows.

    I've just done the same and I seem to have some success- posting before you guys lose me. (for those who can't be bothered to sift through the link:)

    1. Bring up process manager.
    2. Run Starbound
    3. Right click on the process and set affinity.
    4. You'll have a tickbox for each CPU core you have. Deselect all but CPU 0
    5. There will be a pause while it builds the universe, make a cuppa.
    6. Turn your cores back on.
    7. Play.
