Actually, I just took on the UFO with iron armour and an iron hunting bow, and it was easy. Before the update it was hard as, but now it's a walkover. But there is still plenty of time for Chucklefish to change that.

That's very true. It's hard to judge a boss that you've fought before. I was side stepping his beam and squish attacks without even thinking about it.
Now I feel like a bad beta tester :(

I literally stood right underneath the UFO, in the open, and shot at it with a bow and arrow, only taking the occasional break to nom on some bandages. That's one engaging boss fight, sure is.

What about all the PREPARE FOR THE THING THAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU TURN THIS ON.
If are wearing that kind of stuff, that is not preparing. For coming in with such little equipment, you should be punished, by a tough boss. He is very easy, and you don't have to even know his attacks to beat him.

Well all the guns in the game look and feel pretty much the same. Of course I hope all of this is placeholder for their true sounds, animations and sutff.

He's the *first* boss. The tutorial boss. The one that about 50% or more of people on the forums have said "I had no idea this item was going to summon a boss." The one that teaches you that items like that summon bosses to progress. And even in his pre-nerfed state, I beat him only getting hit once with only a hat and an iron bow. If you pay attention and know how to dodge, you only need a ranged weapon and he's easy. And he *should* be.

Even knowing it summons a boss, you don't know what the boss is or how he behaves. You may not know you need a good ranged weapon, let alone what kinds of guns exist and how to search for one. You may not know he summons minions, or dives at you, or shoots down at you. The first of each attack is a surprise and if you're assuming you'll automagically dodge them all the very first time, you're being biased with prior knowledge.

i do not see how i didnt fight it "legitimately" its not like i made it 100% impossible to hit me. i didnt cheat in any way. i just used the tools i had available to beat the boss. one of the tools i had available was dirt. why am i not allowed to use it? what wonderful reason do you have that makes dirt an unviable tool in a boss fight? nothing, thats what. dirt is a perfectly viable option if you have it. and if you dont have any dirt, you arent playing the game right.

I'd say he is an exit to the tutorial, a jump in difficulty. I'd say the tutorial ended after you finished the objective before building it. Your tutorial has finished, you have ran around and got all this stuff, prepared, and now finish the first boss. Tutorial is finished when they finish telling you how to make a smelter.

I have a shotgun with fire damage. It's great for light at night and I can fire it nonstop and never run out of energy.

It's got 3.51 aps 417 damage per shot and 8 energy per shot.

One of the better ones I've found and the burning is hitting like 18s.

He's the first boss. If you are kitted out with the highest gear available in his sector he should be relatively trivial to beat. You want him harder? Fight him naked.

Of course you do. I'm not saying should be disallowed to use dirt, I'm just saying, have you tried fighting him without it? I don't think the boss should be buffed to the point of people NEEDING dirt is all.

I totally agree, but I think that they should not increase projectile speed much for most guns. Too fast and it will be impossible to dodge, and gunning NPCs will destroy you, unless you have a great gun. I think that they should make the styles more distinct though, and make them drop more.

Technically, he's a boss. As such, you should be prepared for what might be the biggest fight in the game at the moment. Bosses should be approached with the best damn gear available to you at the moment and still provide a good fight. That's what I expected: The same difficulty it had before the patch that made it close to a requirement to be prepared. Now you can just walk in with copper armor and an iron bow and still walk out barely injured.

You being able to fight a boss with minimal equipment shouldn't be a recommendation. You're fighting a boss, not some mob you slaughter with impeccable ease every couple minutes on the planet's surface.

If the game developers allow you to fight a boss with low-end weapons and armor and not punish you severely for it, they're doing something wrong. I'm not saying it should be impossible to go in with minimal armor, but you should fight like all hell for going in unprepared.

I can confirm. Being a new player (to Startbound, but veteran in the genre [thank you Terraria]). I made beacon and fought the thing on open ground. My set was incomplete knave set (still had some copper parts) I fought it with iron bow and a ton of bandages. I am going to mostly assume that unless you know where to get the sniper rifle the OP and everyone is chattering about, you are supposed to fight it with iron bow. I tried my best to count the shots and it takes about 4 fully pulled shots to take off a block of health. Depending on level of skill you can probably kill it in 7-15 mins. Which is not bad considering it is the first level boss.

Essentially you guys find it easy because you are getting a high level weapon to fight boss which a normal person may not know about/ find unless searching for it online. I guess too many people use internet as their gaming co-pilot nowadays. It is fine, I don't think it is a bad thing because that in itself is a strategy to overcome a problem. Just don't forget you guys are essentially doing a Disc One Nuke. (Explanation link: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DiscOneNuke)

You just don't have the right context when you start criticizing. And don't forget about the beginner players too as many has mentioned.

Just my two cents on the matter.

And I fought it with copper goggles, starter clothes, and a spear. Get on my -- Lol, seriously though, I question how many people stocked up on bandages before they encountered the boss for the first time. I remember that most people didn't know HOW to regen HP or if it was even possible. I question if their eyes are broken and they can't see bandages in the list... but that's the kind of thing the boss is intended to fix. To break the ice for people. If they fight it and it's too hard, they need to learn what they did wrong, and have options to better prepare for next time (maybe bandages as you said, which I personally keep well over 200 on me at all times). I don't however, think that... short of Hard mode, people are expected to show serious skill when they've decked themselves out in the best available armor and made the best available weapon to counter it (iron bow).

Finding a T1 gun is not a Disc One Nuke though. According to the link, DONs in the way of Starbound would be going to dungeons and getting powerful T2 weapons in the alpha sector and finishing with a pulse jump so you can reach the UFO and beat it senseless with your overpowered melee weapon.

It's *the first* boss. The one that teaches you how bosses work. And "being prepared" is different than "being in the absolute best possible gear from the sector including guns you hunted an airship to buy because you already knew they existed and where to find them and knowing all of his attack patterns in advance"

You can beat him with a wooden bow and no armor if you know how he works and what he does. You make up for the lack of knowledge with some better gear. Having both he absolutely *should* be trivial.

Then it sounds like sniper is overpowered and needs to be reduced then. Which you sound unwilling to let happen pizzarugi.

Okay, I can understand and respect this post, the whole thing about us hunting down guns.
But still, you've seen what people are saying, with an Iron bow they've killed him in 3 mins easy, he is still a boss, and as such, demands power.
