Buff the UFO Boss Maybe? Also Guns Need to be Looked at

I've been holding back on fighting the UFO boss until I was able to find an avian airship to buy a gun. Before the character reset not too long ago, me and a friend fought the first boss together (he was higher tiered than me, he just wanted to help me kill it) and we spent a good amount of time tackling the thing. Fearing the boss was going to be a tough fight like before, I wanted to be absolutely ready. Now I just obtained a sniper rifle (this gun type is still better than any other gun) and fought the UFO boss solo. I took the thing down in less than two minutes and all I had to do was aim and hold down the mouse button. The UFO is hardly a threat anymore! I think you folks should revisit the UFO and make it stronger. Make it fire lasers in quicker bursts, beam down extra minions, etc. And of course tack some extra HP on it.

As for guns, I remembered you guys mentioning something about balancing shotguns at one point which I believe you did do on that patch that had us reset our characters. However, not a single gun has a remote difference between each other besides minor things. Pistols are 1h and snipers have significant knockback, but that's where the differences end. Every gun available is a massive energy hose except the sniper rifle! The assault rifle drains your energy like it was nothing only to do minimal damage same with (machine) pistols. Shotguns are probably the worst culprits in this category though, as it eats MASSIVE chunks of energy yet only does very minimal damage despite the heavy amount of pellets it fires. The best weapon you can get that's actually worth it's energy cost per bullet fired is the sniper rifle.

In closing, I'd like to leave a joking paraphrased line for a song:
    Hello I just met you
    And this is crazy
    But you just blitzed me
    So buff me maybe

There are going to be hard versions of each boss added later on.

For now, the boss is fine as it is.
It is the first one after all.

Ya it's the first boss, it's going to be easy...

I think the minions need to be tougher. Not all of them though only the ones with rifles and no explosives.

First boss shouldn't be taken down so easily by T1 weapons, including guns and sniper rifles. It felt more like I was fighting a mini-boss rather than an actual boss. I'd understand this better if I was using T2+ weapons/armor against it. but I wasn't.

Sniper rifles do way more damage than any other ranged weapon atm, they have much higher DPS overall. Combined with the low energy use and they are clearly the best 2-handed ranged weapon.

They JUST nerfed the UFO boss not two patches ago because he was insanely hard and caused many people to lose all the resources from the beacon.

He's still insanely hard unless your playing with someone else or wait until you have a gun and silver armor, which could be w while if you are not lucky.

There is also a rather good chance that the sniper rifle will get the nerf treatment way before the boss gets a buff. I don't think there is anyway the developers are going to let one ranged weapon become the only "real" choice in ranged weaponry.

Which is why I brought it up. :p

Snipers are the best and the rest of the guns need to be taken up a big notch to compensate for their massive energy requirements.

From my experience, I don't recall you being able to make silver armor now until you have the metalworking station. Only after I killed the boss and made the station was I able to make it. Unless there's another way to obtain the armor in which case I don't know about it.

yeah, I can't agree with this. The first boss should be easier than all other bosses because it's the first one. If people can't kill the boss for the tutorial, they're going to ragequit pretty fast.

Well you said all the guns were pretty much the same as well...

I think they could fix that for snipers at least by upping the per-shot damage and lowering the fire rate. I have a sniper that shoots for 4710 damage per shot with a .51 fire rate. It one-shots smaller mobs on tier 10 planets, and using it really does feel like sniping as opposed to using any other weapon.

Your right, I meant to say iron armor. I keep thinking you can make silver armor since you can make the silver pick ax before MK2

That boss created a bunch of lag for me, but being well prepared the fight can be easy, compared to someone who rushed the beacon, they might have a tough fight on their hands.

I feel the same way. When I looked at the stats and saw that every gun (except shotgun) had about the same amount of energy per bullet, the only viable choice was the one that had the highest damage to energy ratio. I think the shotgun thing might be an oversight though. With how tight the scatter on the pellets are on the shotgun it only makes sense that each is supposed to do damage. It probably has to do with creatures getting invulnerability after being hit, so the first pellet hits for 4 damage, and the others are just absorbed by the invulnerability. It's probably because without the invulnerability, creatures would take weapon damage for every frame they are in a melee attack animation. They might be able to fix it by having ranged attacks not cause invulnerability in enemies, or maybe have shotgun blasts stack on top of one another for 1/10th of a second, totaling the damage before actually applying it and causing the invulnerability to go up.

OR maybe it's just a small oversight and I have no idea what I'm talking about.

He's not insanely hard solo, can be kited and killed with an iron bow and iron armor without too much challenge, at least thats how I found it to be after restarting new characters to test the lastest couple patches.

Bosses should be something you prepare for and be fun. I was sorely disappointed with all the boss nerfs. While they were needed, they overdid it imo. They are only hitting 1-3 bars per hit with max armor which removes any sense of danger.

I can't wait until they add a hard mode because right now it's just a snooze fest. It wasn't as exciting as before. I still remember doing the UFO the first time with my friends and we were all screaming.

A compensation could be the first ship is a scout. When it dies it drops the core to progress and another beacon with the description "Do you dare?". People can continue on their merry way and ones looking for a bigger challenge can activate the scout's beacon. The beacon would summon a harder UFO and drops mid-T2 weapons to start off the new sector and maybe a trophy.

People who rush the beacon should get punished for, well, rushing the beacon. They didn't take the time to prepare for a boss fight, you shouldn't fight any boss without being prepared for it. And for people who did prepare for the boss will find the boss to be a complete pushover.

Pre balance patch, the UFO boss was a good challenge. Had I not had some bombs, it would of been almost too hard, but i enjoyed the fight. Post patch, if you saved the coords of a gun vendor for example, the guy is a total joke. Im talking 20 secs to bring him down. It built this giant tower with multiple levels and shooting lanes, and he didn't even break my first level.

Rarley will I ask for something to be more difficult, but I think he needs a bit of tuning. The gun isn't overpowered by any means. Its just that it fires faster than a bow, and he is such a big target. I would think the solution is a big chunk of health. Just something to make the fight longer so he can go through his moves and destroy your tower.
