Bring back wood being used as fuel.

Didn't sound rude at all. I understand some people like playing the game completely vanilla, and I can respect that. But if you have an idea, and it can be easily implemented, wouldn't you like to use your idea? I'm just trying to work on the balancing now, to not make the fuels seem to "OP", and better fitting into the game.

Well, personally I don't like mining for coal let alone uranium and I usuallly don't use mods until I have finished the game. That's why I felt wood should be brought back.

I think they just need a mechanic to smelt wood into Charcoal, however I'm ok with wood being used for fuel, because lets face it, nothing in Starbound is "realistic".

    I'm with this ^

Atm using wood should be fine, right now I'm pretty stuck on a planet so naturally i'm going to hunt for a mod to fix this. The 'no wood' is a 'no fun' thing for me. This needs a solution thats not a dragging as the coal, but more like JFoxx mod.

As for tree regrowt; erm who cares ? Thers no eco system in this game, atm thers not even a way to revisit planets so the likely hood of going back in near nihil unless you actually wrote down the co-ords and the name of the planet.

Heh, I wouldn't get to caught up on the 'realism' as that's not the goal of the game. Fun is the key!

Personally, I'm all for more fuel types, instead of less. Let me tell you a little story of my first planet, and why it was a nightmare.

The planet didn't seem that offensive at first. Alpha Eh'tadid I 63, the only planet orbiting its star - a lush forest world, with wood-bearing trees and edible fruit growing from its green-dirt grasslands. The climate was temperate, the nights were cool but not so much so that you'd freeze before daybreak, the days were nice and warm. The only things marring this pristine little forest world's beauty would be the abandoned Apex Thought Readjustment Facility, and a couple Apex-built bridges that covered pits of toxic water.

Oh, and the horrible wildlife. One was a giant pink ant, that instead of horking formic acid at you, instead spewed bloody vomit that could one-shot a character in starting armor. It was accompanied by Demonic bats, flying foes that could both spew streams of bubbles and streams of lightning, both of which could nearly one-shot a starting character on their own. There were also Acid Toucans, armed with both acid spray and acid spit, both capable of two-shotting starting characters; they also travelled in flocks, and the dreaded Frostfire Butterfly, a butterfly monster capable of spewing both streams of fire that left lingering, often-fatal burns and clouds of ice.

Needless to say, with so many creatures on this world that both A. wanted my flesh and B. were quite capable of getting it, I wanted to get the heck offworld as soon as I could. Unfortunately, there's no other planets in the solar system. And since wood can't be used as fuel, I have to mine coal. The problem there is that this pestiferous planet, while pretty, is criminally lacking in ores of all kinds, including coal. Very little coal could be found near the surface - deeper down, where you'd expect to find richer veins of ores, you'd discover nothing but a crazy-huge tar pit that stretched almost the width of the planet. No ores spawn in tar pits, meaning that much of the world's underground is barren.

I spent most of my time creeping about the surface, running from anything that so much as looked at me funny, as I struggled to scrape together enough coal, 2-3 pieces at a time, to get the heck offworld. Had I been able to use wood or some other easily-obtained alternative, I could have ditched that world and its psychotic wildlife a lot sooner. It's fortunate that a dear friend of mine helped me out with some silver armor; had he not done so (ensuring that the damage the locals inflict goes from 'murderous' to 'manageable in small quantities'), I might have given up on this character entirely.

I think there is a good deal of players like myself who don't like having to mine down for resources on every planet we visit, now that we can't use wood, mining is required.

Wood is the one fuel resource that didn't require an annoying grind to obtain, even desert planets have some tree's you can gather. It made adventuring more fun because I could go to systems with only 1 planet, scan the surface, and move on. Now with coal being required, it means you really have to nit pick your destinations, you need to farm up at least 100 chunks (it's 1 to 2 ratio right?) of coal to break even on fuel, while this is not difficult, it's just time consuming, and after 4-5 worlds it starts getting old rather quick.

This is also keeping in mind that ore is set higher right now, so in the coming patches the quantities are going to be reduced making it take longer to gather coal.

I'm only in support of wood as fuel because it seems like coal is much, much harder to find now. I can literally find 100s of bars worth of silver and gold but I can barely scrape 50 chunks of coal in the same mining session now.

Creating charcoal sounds better since you can then either use it as fuel or to create torches.

Seems the new update has made it so 10 wood= 1 coal. I'm fine with that instead of just only mining coal.
