Bring back wood as fuel! Or atleast decrease the amount of wood for 1 coal.

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by UnrealAlly, Dec 13, 2013.

?

Should we change the ratio? Or Make would a fuel? Or should we keep it the same.

  1. 2:1 Wood=Coal

    13.6%
  2. Wood back at 1:1 and able to fuel.

    7.1%
  3. Leave it as it is.

    79.3%

Indignant. But I had to get steam to verify local files because all my wood turned into generic objects and my trees disappeared once.

There is a differance between challenge and pure tedium I spent a good hour doing coal hunting got enough for like 200 fuel. Coal hunting is not fun. It just isn't. Yes its a challenge but it isn't a fun one. Fun is exploring, fun is looting, fun is encountering. Fun is not spending countless hours in boring caves with little content besides vines and darkness. Games are for entertainment, disagree all you like but you are wrong. If you are playing a game you should be enjoying yourself. I don't see how its a problem to be able to jump around the galaxy as much as you like. Even at the start of beta you had to do a certain amount of foraging to maintain fuel, now pretty much all I am doing is mantaining my fuel and I am getting really sick of it. I can't enjoy other elements of the game because all my time is sunk into coal.

Seeing as you get upwards of 10 wood per tree, probably not. As it stood, wood was basically the most effective fuel beforehand. 10+ fuel per tree and how fast you chop down trees meant there was basically no point to coal besides the crafting.

I think I see this game more as being a survival in space kind of game and less of an explore space game. I mean, I do think exploration is a main aspect of that, but being able to manage fuel is probably going to be a major part of surviving in space.

I really hope not. I really really hope not. The Survival Genre is the most god awful boring genre out there.

Hey bro, I got this game about staying inside a cabin for weeks on end and only going outside to hunt when you are hungry. Basically you just forage or sit in shelter and don't fight anything!

Its called stand around and dont starve!

10:1 ratio for wood to coal is too extreme. Reduce this please.

To each his own, but there are enough survival mechanics to make me think that the game will turn out less about "WHEEEEE EXPLORE EVERY PLANET" and more about managing your resources to make sure you can explore a decent amount while not managing to strand yourself on a planet.

I don't know why anybody would want wood to be the most effective fuel (or even particularly viable) for an interstellar spaceship, if anything why not argue about making fuel costs cheaper?

I guess the survival fans are pleased. All two of them. Hell, Roguelikes and Space Sims are less niche than Survival. If they were going to go this route I wish they would have let us know. Because I feel a bit duped if this was the plan all along.

Its not like its really even that hard to get fuel right now, though.

Also, "roguelikes and space sims are less niche than survival". Day Z, War Z, Rust, Project Zomboid, Will to Survive, etc. Pretty sure if survival was so niche it wouldn't be so trending. :\

i think it's fine as it is, 10:1 ratio.

Wood is incredibly common, while coal is somewhat uncommon .it also has to be mined out of the ground using a 2-handed tool which is slightly inconvenient. I think as is, wood serves as a decent backup if you can't dig up coal, but in current amounts its more efficient and meaningful to gather coal directly, than try to make it.

lowering the wood ratio would severely devalue mined coal, and i don't want to see that happen.

I suppose you are right about it trending. They didn't seem to push the survival aspects in the adverrtsing and previews though. We knew they would be present but Jesus this is a bit ridiculous. And no its not hard to find 1000 coal or 10000 wood, but it is pretty damn time consuming. I'd much rather be using my evenings wrecking a dungeon somewhere.

It's not hard to get fuel. At all..

But it does take forever, And it really limits my exploration.

I suppose I can just mod it though. But what about multiplayer? Can server admins run modded servers?

It was tedious without wood to coal at all and now that they made it easier you are complaining?

  17. Heebejeebes

    Heebejeebes Phantasmal Quasar

Why does the mechanic need to be such a pain at all? I don't understand why they are forcing this down our throats when all the preview material pointed to something much more about exploration and dungeon crawling than survival in space. I didn't sign up for Day Z 2.

I hate this question because everyone says it.

It is a game. With mechanics and progression. If you do not want to have to do anything to get anyway in the GAME why are you even playing a GAME.

They are not shoving it down your throat. YOU ARE PLAYING THE GAME!

Oh look, ANOTHER person that imagined something different than was advertised! I'm not shocked, it seems reading and critical thinking have eluded a huge percentage of folks around here.
As for the, "Oh all two of the people that like survival games!", have you heard of a little game called Minecraft? That game that is all about survival which has sold several million copies? Wow those must be some wealthy folks that could buy that many accounts! You're on your own, sorry to say, don't try to drag other people into your lack luster easily dismiss able argument by going pulling statistics out of the bumb.
