**** Upon finishing the resets content I realized the planet system is just as it was, so the 100 planet system is not necessary, but I do think easy/medium/hard indicators are necessary, especially in the case of the first 4 sectors ***

I know it's only been half a day but I really don't think simplifying the planet system is going to help anything. It just feels like the game lost depth... I liked the technical feel of how spawns worked on certain planets and how to intuitively pick where to adventure based on what you think it would yield. Now it all just seems bland. Just pick any of these planets, they're all the same, hopefully you don't get a bunch of 9 dps weapons because there's no way to differentiate between the lower and higher tier of the sector. God forbid you need a certain type of ore. I just think it took away something that was very enjoyable. Can you just add a tenths place at least? .1-1, 1.1-2, 2.1-3, etc. Then you have everything based on the main planet level and small modifiers based on the 2nd number, and you can keep you're combat math system if you want to just make it dependent on the first number or however you're doing it. I just really miss the vast feel. Not a fan of the new system as far as that's concerned, but combat does seem better.

**Edit: What do you think about making an easy/medium/hard indicator for the planets like the monsters, then we can keep the 1 number, things stay vague, yet we have a little direction.**

I would shoot for a difficulty rating for each planet so harder mobs spawn on various ones so we can still keep the old system intact to an extent.

Before we had Skittles, every planet tasted different. Now we have Smarties, they all taste the same but have different colour shells.

On the previous system I just ignored any planet that wasn't the max for the sector I was in. The reason was pretty obvious: I wanted the best available and anything inbetween was a waste of time. I don't know how it is now, but even dungeons felt like a waste of time. Village guards on the previous setup were higher level and always dropped better gear than what you'd find in chests or get from minibosses.

It's too easy to abuse AI and kill them from safety, so even if they can kill you in one hit, it doesn't matter.

Got to agree that I preferred the old system. Bring it back or at least the tenths idea up above.

i didn't see much point in a 100 planet system with armour pen on.

who wants to be upgrading there gear every 2 planet levels? if armour pen was 2 levels below it was 400% less effective -.-

Yeah... the prospect of saying to a friend "alright, were approaching a class 17 planet, so have your gun ready!"
Is significantly more awesome than saying
"alright thar chuck, les go hit us up one of them there class 1 planets, and then later we'll mosey on ova to a 'nudder one"

    TL;DR
Bring the old system back :(

This was the problem with the old system, but the new system isn't the way to fix it. The devs should work on making lower level planets more worthwhile to visit for well geared players. As well as improve the AI and tweek the game mechanics so you can't just cheese your way to a good weapon from the highest level planet of a sector. This new system seems like a lazy fix, and it feels like it removes 90% of the games progression.

Please don't, the old system was terrible and lead to scaling issues which gave us the whole armour penetration problem.

Yeah, it was no good gameplay-wise.

Everyone just seems to want it back because they were used to it, even though the new system is much better and spreads out the game's progression in a much cleaner and more understandable way.

The problem I see is that we don't have any advantages of visiting higher level planets because there is nothing we couldn't get from low level planets, you agree ? The old armor penetration was bound to planet level and was unique but it has changed to a dps system and why would it make any more sense keeping the planet level alive? It could be divided into 3 levels for loot things and challenges but this is a totally different point.

the last time i read something about those changes, we still have the "100 planet" system, just not in it's old state. i read, that there are stll easy (X1-X 3) medium (X4-X7) and dangerous (X8-X0) planets, at least thats how it should be (maybe it's not completly in yet).
there are still your old thread level 10 planets out there, they are just no longer called thread level 10.... ok, at least there should be those planets, maybe, in the current state of unbalanced weapons, they don't feel like the old 10 planets, but after a lot of balancing, they should be there.

    edit: removed the smily...

No, the armor penetration lead to the armor penetration problem. That has nothing to do with the planet system. It wouldn't have been that hard to rewrite the tables and balance the numbers, instead they scrap it and introduce and entire new system after 6 days of testing which is hardly enough time to balance a system.

Couldn't they simply just alter tables so that instead of it being a 400% jump up 2-3 levels it's simply... not? Just make it scale more evenly. I'm not even sure why that's something that needs to be explained. Lol.

I've already seen random people rewrite the armor pen to dmg modifier tables including armor in threads....

The planets still have a variable difficulty rating. They probably are still aiming for 10 levels of difficulty in each Sector. They just don't show you exactly which threat level a planet is anymore. That is a very good change. The easy/medium/hard classification they're planning to implement is even better, they will allow you to look at your gear and determine if you have a chance of surviving there > "oh ok, I've got _some_ upgrades on this Tier, so I guess I can farm easily on easy planets, and can at least survive on medium planets".

How exactly a planet having a "number" was good for variety? Below the surface it is exactly the same system, except they're not classifying enemies, weapons or armor by a "level", which was quite frankly extremely boring. "Look, level 7 planet, your weapon is level 3 so you will deal 1 damage to them".

The new system is infinitely better. It's a lot more organic.

I'm actually exploring planets and seeing how I fare in them, instead of comparing numbers via a math equation and going "oh ok, 9 is bigger than 6, so I can't go there".

Nah, I pretty much always just went to either the lowest or the highest level planets in a sector. There was no incentive to do otherwise. But now that's not the case anymore. I do think additional balance needs to be done to this new system, but overall I think it will be an improvement.

I agree, it needed balancing. But why is it that since the old system was off balanced the response is "nix the old system!" and when the new system is off balance it's "oh guys give them a chance to balance it"?
Yes, they also needed new armors so you could actually have armor suited for the high levels of the teir, but the 100 level system gave the game depth. I went to 10 planets per sector instead of 2.
It can still be the new system and just 100 levels as OP said... He did not bring armor pen into the conversation you did.

I like the new system, I don't want the old system to return. Good riddance.

Edit: The complaint that the old system made every planet feel unique is false logic. Every planet is still unique, it has unique creatures, dungeons, random events, ore distribution, and tree distribution.

It's still unique. Just because a planet is level 17 vs 15 or 11 doesn't mean it's somehow different or more unique. If you somehow think the arbitray number beside a planet makes it special or different, you need a new perspective on games. It's the video game equivalent of a term we use at tabletops, "Roll playing" vs "Role Playing". Just because two classes share the same attributes or even similar skills doesn't mean they're the same.
