Bosses in beta (small potential update)

I was on IRC tonight and Omni was active, so after talking for a bit, I asked him about bosses in the beta (as I thought based on the work done on the first boss, having all 10 bosses in the beta would take a lot of time). Here's the short log:

<SuperMandrew> omni, last question: are all bosses planned to be in the beta? if you'd rather not say, i understand
<+OmnipotentEntity> no, not all bosses will be in the beta I don't imagine
    <SuperMandrew> thanks! :)
<Krogglidor> Oh, I thought all would be

Interesting. I'm guessing these bosses were to do with the main story. Wonder if we'll have minibosses or anything.

Seems reasonable with the community wanting beta so bad

Not sure about the minibosses in beta, but personally I think I'd be glad to not have all the bosses in the beta. For one, coding and setting up each one would take a long time as seen by posts regarding the first boss. But I think leaving some bosses out will also give everyone something to look forward to once the full game is released.

I think the first boss is in because it's tutorial related, so it seemed right for them to include it.

My fellow forum goers, ask not what your beta can do for you, ask what you can do for your beta.

Hmm. Beta may not be quite as far off as I thought...

I'm not so sure there will be so many bosses in beta. It's possible, but... I dunno. Like I said, the main reason the first one is included is because it's part of teaching players about the game, sort of tutorial-related.
A lot of the bosses will probably be story-related, so I'm guessing a good deal of them probably won't be in beta! o_O
Maybe we will have procedurally-generated mini-bosses in beta?

So, I know we're getting random minibosses, but will we be getting randomly generated normal bosses as well?

Keep in mind, ladies and gents - development does occur even during beta. Even if the bosses past the tutorial boss aren't in beta when it's released, there's nothing that says they won't be patched in as they're ready to be tested by the pre-ordering community.

    Chins up, there's hope yet.

The game won't truly be complete until someone has posted a video of a fight with all 10 bosses at the same time.

You expect at least half or 3/4 of them to be in on beta release? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Okay. One more year then hahaha*snort*.

Nah, I don't see why they would have to implement over half of the bosses for a beta release (5 total if each race faces the same boss through the main quest line, if it goes by tier, 10 tiers, or was it 100 tiers total? Not sure). Sure it would be nice to have all the bosses in the game on beta release but it would also be nice to have the full version of the game on beta release which won't happen. I think the minibosses will be easier for them to add in if they are using the procedural approach for those like they did with the other creatures in the game, which would make sense if they are going to show up on just about any planet you go to.

The way I see it though, there could also be one unique boss for every race in the game, for every tier or planet level reached with the main quest line. If there are 100 bosses total for one race, then multiply that with every race in the game, that's 600 or 700 bosses, now that could take a while to add, like maybe a year if the focus was only on unique bosses.

But it's most probably 60 or 70 bosses total, that or 100 bosses if there is one boss for every planet level reached and there are 100 planet levels. That would still take some time to add to the game.

So yeah... 6 bosses for beta release sounds about right to me. And probably at that time, there would be something like at least a hundred variations of minibosses. It would be enough at that point to entertain us for a good while I would say. :geek:

And then... Nah, leaving these thoughts for later...

In all fairness everyone... the first boss is the one that takes the longest to implement. After that, the turn around time is significantly shorter. Because all the systems for bosses would be already made. Remember how Tiy said it will all be based off of systems, for just such situations. Not to mention the added benefit of making modding much more magnificent. M m m, m m....

Typically (which will obviously not be the case here, considering their stated progress,) a beta has very limited gameplay. It involved enough gameplay to test out basic mechanics, but for the most part betas feel very "barren" and empty. I wouldn't expect many bosses at all in beta.

That being said, we all know things don't work quite the same as usual here at Cuddlefish. Which in many respects is a great thing.

No I don't think so. Unless they vary by color only, because I think the "normal bosses" will be based on the main quest line. In which case there will probably be some NPC screaming "WATCH OUT, THE TENTACLES ARE COMING!" as an example. And at that point if there would be a tiny poptop waltzing into the scene then it would become kinda ridiculous.

Not that I wouldn't love randomness, but you get the idea...
