Bosses and Water Mechanics

I will preface by saying yes I know this is pre-beta and anything can change.
I observed two things in the recent show livestream that concern me a bit (if they are left unresolved)

First, I am concerned that the bosses may be too tough to solo, potentially making singleplayer play problematic based on the length of the boss fight that was shown.
Perhaps the boss encounter scales in difficulty based on the number of players or something. No I am not saying make the boss a cakewalk either, but singleplayer should be an option. It is also possible that the players in the demo just hadn't amassed the proper tier one armor and such for the fight so there could be something there too.

Second, in the demo livestream (right about in the middle) there is a place where the player breaks a wall next to some water and the water rolls down the hill a bit before seemingly disappearing rather than pooling in the depression in the ground below. Is this due to a small limit on water flow or a bug? This could make some water movement projects not doable if not fixed.

    Thoughts?

Water flows out through the back if there is empty space behind it.

That likely explains it. good thinking :)

I'm starting to think that as well.

That and they were using really weak guns so the boss might of seemed tougher there than it really was.

Also, I think they may have started the boss fight a little earlier than most would. I would have spent far longer than 45 minutes building up equipment and setting things up before I started a boss fight. I'd also have closed the damn door. But yeah, I suspect that if a little more time was spent on prep, the boss fight would have gone much quicker, even solo.

If anything I'm a bit concerned that the boss fight would be too easy. Or at least too easy to cheese. The boss couldn't get to them in the house so I could see this fight being very easy if you use your terrain to your advantage. I'll also echo what the others have said and point out that their gear was only their starter equipment. Had they spent any significant amount of time preparing they could have found or made better gear than they had going into the fight.

The UFO's attacks were the Body Slam and the, uh, lightning bolt thing, which did 8 and 3 damage respectively and were actually really easy to avoid if you look closely. He literally kept walking into it. I'm not positive, but I think you start with 100 health, and medkits are an instant heal as currently implemented, which means dying should not be an issue normally. Not at this point anyway.

Honestly the only issue I saw was that the thing took an extremely long time for the three of them to kill, but for an armored vehicle of that size it's probably to be expected. Plus, those weapons were actually really weak; he was doing a lot less DPS than with his starter sword, I dunno why he switched. (As I recall his starter was doing 30 damage a hit, while the rifle he switched to was 1-4 per shot or something like that.)

As a player with over 100+ hours in terraria I don't think that boss seemed at all to difficult. I actually would have liked them to amp it up a little bit, but yes 3 of them were killing it. They actually had a advantage, bosses in terraria actually go through blocks and still attack you.

Well first boss isn't necessarily meant to be really hard. I hope they have some sort of mechanics to bosses, that they also switch special attacks each time you play them to get some diversity.

Also if boss could spawn adds inside building, that would already help taking off the terrain advantage from players.

The boss was really good IMHO. I loved seeing it in the demo, WAAAAAy better than a floating eye or a skull with flailing arms. Can't wait to see what else chuck comes up with.
