Booster Flame

There used to be this unobtainable object called a "Booster Flame" that was essentially just the various types of ship boosters found on... well, your ship. They were really useful for custom ship building, but since the new update I can't seem to spawn them. Does anybody know if something changed?

probably the name... or was part of a mod. Or the command line part is changed.

Is all I can think of.

I thought that the name might have changed, but I'm fairly sure that it wasn't part of a mod. It could be though. I might be able to find the files for it if i dig around in the assets.

Yeah probably easier to find out that way. I've only messed with furniture and block objects and not the animated ones. Plus some of the files have been a bit reorganized since koala edition. If you had the game then. Shouldn't be too difficult to find though if it is still there. Should be if it is the ones that appear below the ship currently that you are talking about. or the ones behind the ship.

I found it. For some reason each race has a seemingly identical set of boosters. Weird. To be clear, the "objectName" in an object's .object file is the item id used by /spawnitem, correct?

Like I mentioned it might be different, but I would assume so. I am not familiar with the admin commands. Familiar with the files at least.

well only one way to find out. It would either be that or the object name itself. the file name or name in that field. I would think. I just don't know how it would be written since I haven't read up on the giraffe way of modding things yet, as it might be in relation to that, or have a way to do it within its' own structure.

After testing a couple other items, it seems as though the objectName is the item id. It still gives me an unknown item despite the id being correct, so maybe there's something else going on. I noticed that the file format for the ship boosters' .object files is slightly different from other .object files in that there's a "printable" parameter, as well as "hasObjectItem" and a slightly different layout. Maybe the files are outdated and no longer work with the new update.

hmm.. could be something for future use as well.

Also it is different due to it being an animation file. I may not have messed with many but that seems to be the case with some of them that are of those types.

But yes could be one that hasn't been retrofitted with this version. Might be a special way to go about it with the admin commands though too. At least to get what you are looking for. Might have a look at mad tulip's custom ships mod as that one I believe uses them to be placeable. Might give you an idea. Only thing I can think of. I think I am going to head off.

Like I mentioned to another person, there might be others better to point out which might be correct. Assuming it is possible with admin commands.:)

I believe they added a bit of code that says they don't have an item object making it basically unobtainable in item form.

This is the correct answer. They made a pass on many items, such as prison graffiti and these booster flames, and added this code:

"printable" : false, (Can't print it at the 3D printer)
"hasObjectItem" : false, (Can't spawn it with /spawnitem and won't drop when mined)

I found out about the "hasObjectItem" because I tried to spawn in a shield generator object for testing and got a PGI instead.

Simply changing "hasObjectItem" to true doesn't seem to do the trick, and changing "printable" to true doesn't make it show up in the 3D printer when I use /admin.

Dear I say, did you make the changes properly? As in the form of a mod with json patch files?

    Tested and worked for me.

I know next to nothing about modding, so I probably did it incorrectly. If you don't mind, could you please link the patch file you made?

No matter how many times you post that in how many different threads - you do not open or edit .pak files via notepad++.
There's a decompressor in the starbound directory, and so is a compressor.

Just create a bat file (²) containing:

    asset_unpacker.exe ../assets/packed.pak assets
    @pause

² Copy the text above into a notepad file and rename the file <WhateverYouWant>.bat

(Should be noted that the finished .bat file belongs to "win32" or "win64" folders, respectively [aka it doesn't matter which one])
Then create a mod doing the thing you want to do.
Don't repack in the core assets.

Actually I'm thinking the easiest way to get the item is by getting MadTulips spaceship mod... It gives you a crafting station that lets you obtain many unobtainable items. Hope this helped!
