I do think it's really a neat thing that in the Glitch societies we've seen, female-form Glitch are allowed to join the town guard and whatnot.

However, aren't they core concepts of the Glitch that those stable societies we see are stuck in a medieval culture, and female-form Glitch are mostly there to simulate the gender dichotomy of their society?

What was the behind-the-scenes driving force behind pushing the Glitch society ahead to the point of gender equality?

I don't remember seeing any female glitch on the town guard although I may be incorrect

In the 5 October update, it seems that both of the guards in the guard house besides the captain are female.

I think they are stuck in medieval technology and not medieval culture.

  5. That's an interesting point, though I don't think that this is something Chucklefish is going to tackle.

Like many games out there, I believe they'll go with gender "randomization" for guards, regardless of the cultural values behind it. Truth is, the Glitch aren't having a medieval society 100% mirrored.

Yeah, I'd guess that the gender is just randomized. Gender equality is probably a bit too serious of an issue for starbound to tackle :p

Judging by the fact they do have more advanced gear... well, I say their culture evolution procedure malfunctioned!

The glitch are a simulated race that got stuck in the medieval era. We don't know the variables the glitch were running, but I don't think they are religious. Not to spark an argument, but religion was a big reason we don't have equality. God > Leader > Religion Delegates > Men > Women.

Well, if the glitch are religious, maybe there should me some self aware ones that have decided not to follow the majority. That would be interesting.

The Glitch live in a stereotypical swords, archers, and castles sort of culture, but those things are technological, not social. Their society may not have and may never have had any real concerns over sex or gender and associated "roles".

I believe the glitch are going to be religious because in most society's religion was an important factor and the glitch are meant to simulate societys.

But on a seperate note it might be because the glitch are not actually male or female but simply meant to act like they are male or female. Not sure how but this could be a factor

  12. I wonder if it's just them being worried about hyper feminists finding any small thing they possibly can about gender discrimination, and not anything to do with the game itse--naaaaaaaaaah

I don't think Glitches understand what females are, in terms of their own race. Keep in mind that the Glitch are robots--they do not "reproduce" and as such gender distinction probably doesn't really exist. There are a bunch of Glitch and they all look different. I don't think gender factors in. Even if they see other races, there's no telling at what point along their cultural evolution that they met them. "Avian females share characteristics with subset A of our race" is a neat observation, but I don't think that their practices and traditions would be instantly warped by something like that.

All in all, I don't think there's any real issue or stance being taken here. It's just not part of the Glitch. (This is all, of course, speculation on my part. More important people might say otherwise.)

It's an alien society. Even though it's got familiar medieval themes it will still have differences. Comparing them to human medieval times would not be totally accurate.

Aww, I'd hoped there would be an interesting Lore-based answer of some sort.

    Ah, well.

Don't give up until Demanrisu gives us a response. It is the only way to be sure.

I know this comes up often, but I feel that this is just simply the best answer to this thread's question...

    It's a game.
