Well man I don't know who gets the idea of "hey let's make a melee wepon that self destructs after a bit" I should probably fix the OP.
Yeaaa I'll get a name-change-back eventually. Just calls me Murky ok? Erhem...there should be a book that summons mini spirit-dragons... That attack and what not...
See I'd like to have included stuff like this, but that's heavily pushing the "no magic in Starbound" rule. And will do.
Smoooooth. There are definite boundaries with this weapon yes, but then again there are boundaries with everything. <-- Flawless argument.
But there's no maaaAAAAAGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCC- jk. This suggestion is baus.
It's possible, but besides just added physical damage and knockback it seems difficult to think of it's specialties.
To make this a ranged weapon, some books could have pages that can conduct a mild electrical charge, causing them to automatically fold into a paper airplane as soon as they are torn out and thrown. Maybe the book is a sort of printer that uses energy to continuously make more razor-edged pages to use as ammo. One of the books used this way could have glow-in-the-dark pages. Or the paper could be designed to ignite shortly after being removed, like pulling the pin from a grenade. They could even be dosed with radiation, laced with poison, or pretty much any other sort of weapon mod that you could find on a gun. Another option could be that when you open the book, all the pages inside imediately burst out and dole out a thousand paper cuts for sudden damage in a short range area, at the cost of all your energy. More energy means more paper cuts. You could even use this to shower confetti during a parade, or probably dozens of other non-combat uses as well. Of course, I also like the idea of just bonking people over the head with improvised weapons like books, lamps, chairs, etc... Read of Die?
